This is the third part of my series on making a Pencil Post bed that I am doing from the DVD that I got from Charles Neil at: www.antiquesbuiltdaily.com. I am now in the the not so exciting part of this project which is the sanding, sanding and sanding. There really is not much to say about the sanding but I would like to share something that I learned from Charles on my first trip to his shop in New Market VA that has really helped to improve the sanding on my projects. He showed me how t...

so my router table project has come to an end. i got my shipment from Lee Valley today and i am happy to say that everything is completed. first upon getting the 2’ T-track i cut it in half with a jigsaw and a metal cutting blade. then i epoxied the track into place. i used a board of mdf to distribute pressure and my two former table saw wings which are probably around 20 pounds each on top.
then i just drilled for and installed the t bolts and put on the knobs. and when the fen...

Hey Everybody
In this episode of the Teenage Woodworker I go over some basic cabinet construction in the first part of a three part series where i make a printer table. There are a lot of technical things that i go over but try to stay with me for the whole episode. As always since i am only using a digital camera to film the sound is a little bad. so try to bear with me it helps to turn up the sound and sit a little bit away from the computer. this improves the sound a little bit. ...

It’s been a long week, but I am excited to say that I just finished up the 2nd Steak Knife set tonight about 10:15pm CT. Sure, I could go to bed, but not after I blog the milestone. But, first, let me apologize for not providing much in the area of notable, or supportive input the past couple of months. I just haven’t had time to do any reading on LJ, only worrying about getting my own projects and blogs posted. I swore off of LJ until the steak knife commissions were complete,...

A few of us her at LJ that turn pens decided to get together and swap some of goodies. We’ve started a package moving around the country (actually, around North America – we dip into Canada as well!) containing 5 turned pens, 5 pen kits and 5 blanks.
Here’s a map to show where we’re located and where our pens will travel:
When each Jock gets the package he’ll go through it and decide what he wants to take from it, he can take all or nothing but… what...

First blog although this project is pretty far along…I have recieved a commission to build a dining room table and matching coffee table for a friend and client. The material is knotty pine and will be finished in an antique honey pine as in here. (see “Staining Pine: Make this Humble Wood Look Like A Million Bucks; American Woodworker Present Guide To Finishing, winter 2007/2008 edition, page 52). That handles the issue of splotchy/blotchy staining on pine.
However, the clien...

After seeing the neat job that MOT/ Tom did with his shooting board I was enticed to make one of my own.I am in the middle of milling some wood for small boxes so I will needed something to handle these small gauge materials.I am a pack rat and wood hoarder by genetic make up so when I dug through one of my precious piles of scrap I found an old poplar plywood shelf, a piece of arborite (Tom’s idea) and a piece of 3/4” fir flooring plywood. The rest were off cuts of oak walnut etc ...

Well, I am finally graduating to furniture. I intend to blog the journey in this series to share what I learn in the transition from small boxes to full size furniture. I’ve done large projects before but furniture is sort of the ‘holy grail’ of woodworking, in my mind. It is what I would really like to do (if I could afford the lumber). By the way, my mom’s birthday is June 21st (we will see how close I get to the the deadline.)
The Design:
Here is the original...

Well Dusty and I talked about the broken and fractured stained glass panel. The panel was insured for material costs but definitely not the 70 some hours that were taken to make the panel.
Previous blog Dusty’s #5 starts here. First blog starts here.
I didn’t start on making the frame for the stained glass panel because I wanted to make it to fit the actual glass panel.
Since we had a delay. The breakage and the filing for the insurance claim, I thought that I’d make the frame to mat...
