In the front area of our house (the formal living and dinning combined) there are two windows that we decided need valances above them before we purchase window treatments for them.
I found a picture similar to what we were looking for:
The couple that I am going to build will be painted white. Normally i would start with rough lumber and process it, but because this is a painted project i went to my local box store to pick up some yellow pine as well as some molding.

Did you ever have a day where everything just falls into place and things turn out the way they are supposed to? I love those days. It isn’t that the other days are a disaster or anything, but looking back I can honestly say that it was definitely a good one. Not only did I accomplish what I set out to do, but unexpectedly, I liked the result much better than I thought I would.

This picture shows a possible solution to attaching my router table top to my table saw. The aluminum rail attaches to the saw and the top attaches to the rail. I can’t take credit for the idea, that goes to LJ joeE. Thanks joeE.

I’ve been working on this one a while, its my wifes jewelry cabinet. I made the base this last weekend it has hand cut tenons but I used the router table to cut the mortises. still has a bit of work to go.
update: overall dimensions are 31 1/4 inchs tall x 10 1/2 inches wide x 6 inches deep.
doors are maple while the carcase and legs are red oak.

Well I finally got some pictures from inside the can. Being the cheapskate that I am, found a factory refurbished digital camera to take my pictures. Rather then getting the camera I previously told you about at Big Lots. Hey! I save $10 even with shipping from tigerdirect.com.
So, without dragging this on forever, here are the latest photos from outside and inside the can.

Here are a few pictures of the progress made on this carving. It shows the legs roughed out and shows how I played with the positions before gluing them in place. I also decided to switch hands with the spear. Now that I have these things in place, I can start carving all the details and decorations. I am working on a design for a possible commission that is more of a priority thatn this piece right now.

I have a fully joined carcase with partitions for five drawers, but it’s only got two sides, a top and a bottom. ie: it needs a backside! Options I’ve thought about include a series of half-lap boards nailed into a rabbet at all four edges, and a floating frame and panel. Because one of these is necessarily more difficult to do than the other, you can likely guess which one I’ve chosen…

Well, I got back on track and actually accomplished a lot of small things yesterday (and some larger things, too!) Overall it wasn’t a bad day at all and I even had the time for a short nap with the three kitties in the middle of the afternoon. I don’t do that often, but I find that taking an hour out when I am tired really does wonders because it refuels me and I last much later than I would have and I am far more alert. I feel better too and I am starting to believe that a ca...
