We did not have enough space to layout the entire room on the floor, so once I got a sense of how things went together, I measured everything, assigned a number to each one of the parts and plotted all the pieces on the computer. Much easier to drag around and piece the puzzle together. (also much less likely to break some very old and brittle wood) 17th century meets 21st century. :)
Some of the notes appear below.

With most of the construction done it was time for detailing and contemplating how to finish the table. I share my thoughts on how I will proceed in this post in my blog. Thanks for reading!

”Bangdoo-sanji” in Korean is almost similar with ”tusk-tenon” in English.
Let me show you the illustrated picture.
Bangdoo means the tenon extends beyond the through mortise, and Sanji means wedge.
If you have “Handbook of joinery” of “the art of woodworking”, You will be able to see “tusk tenon” at page 106.
Back to my project,I chose walnut for sanji (wedge). But I think ebony or bubinga would be better choice.
Now, l...

We never thought at the time to chronicle this project with photos, so I will try to muddle through with the few I have. I wish we got a photo of the pile of lumber and panels when they arrived in our trailer, but I can tell you that the site of them caused me to think – - &$#)@ WHAT ARE WE DOING !!!!—- :)
Below are some shots of some parts layed out on the floor in an attempt to make some sense of it all. Click on the photo to get a full size view.
Above is an attempt t...

Okay, I had some difficulties so here is the video, it should work now. It was too long and therefore made youtube not accept it so here it is. Sorry for that. Also it kind of jumps around so it may be hard to understand what I doing but I was strained for time and had to cut out alot of stuff. Thank you and enjoy.

Saturday was the day. Mr. Dorje came over with the tools and know-how, I provided assistance when able. We spent about seven hours, milling five logs each between six an eight feet long, and about 26” in diameter.
The two widest logs we milled into 10/4 slabs, the rest we milled closer to 5/4 planks. The 10/4 is ear-marked for a friend of mine who will use it to make electric guitar bodies. The rest? I’ll figure that out when it is dry and as the need arises.
It was a g...

Well didn’t get as much done as I had hoped. I did get the 1 1/2 inch threaded rods epoxied in.I then finished up the last two layers of the lamination and got the layout for shaping the mallets head done. For fun I slipped the head through the mortise just to get an idea of the final product.

I have continued on my stool project. I have improvised, and tweaked, to make this a stool that is usable. I am currently set on the idea of a pocket screw, with gule to attach the legs to the top, I know that a mortis and tenon would be the best possible thing, but that would require a compound angled motise with no edge to guide a router, I belive that the screws along with glue should hold the legs in place, but does anyone have any other ideas??? today I am hopefully going to finish up th...

This was an interesting project that I worked on a few years ago. The photo above show the panels in the original room at Henwood Priory, Warwickshire, England. It is the only thing I had to go on. One wall had a fireplace that someone must have blacked out before the auction because it was not part of the sale.( a note: the photos that I use in this blog are rather large so you can see some of the detail. just click on them to see the whole photo and click again to see them actual size )...
