Well this is a genuine air scrubber. I know that the dust in the air is really bad for your lungs and just isn’t fun to breath. I know once I get my dust collector, that dust will be down to a minimum but there will always be some dust in the air. Even when sanding or during any operation that won’t connect to the collector. So I was thinking about also getting a air scrubber that was cheap yet effective. I was looking at Shop Vac’s model, but it seemed kind of cheaply made ...

I finally got up the strength to give sketchup a try this week. It has to be one of the most miserable programs I have ever tried to learn. There is too much information, there is too little information and almost every step involves going out somewhere over the internet to gather up the basics.
Suffice it to say that the learning curve, at least for me, is daunting.

Finally got started on Norms Miter Bench and Storage. I had previously rough cut the base components so thankfully I didn’t have to break down six sheets of 3/4 ply. I started with the rabbits and the dado’s on all of the pannels. Note, the rabbits (when called for) go on the back not the front of the panel, most important on the right cabinet (scratch one panel). I have been very impressed by the creativity and ingenuity of the users of this site. One of the best things I have found so far is the discussions on the thickness sanders. All the plans I have seen have been very nice, and very well done. However for my purposes I just don’t have the room for something that can’t be knocked down. So my goal with this project is to build a Thickness sander that can be knocked down, as well as still be a useful size for my projects and future endeavors....

I started woodworking in my early 20s (many year ago). Prior to this the only real exposure to woodworking I had was building remote controlled model aircroft out of balsa. I started by taking a year long rough carpentry course at a local community college. What does this have to do with workbenchs you wonder.. I’ve been a casual, beginner-level woodworker since learning some basics in high school shop class, but now I find myself living on a farm with a small orchard of about 3 dozen walnut trees. A tree expert (easy to find those here in Oregon) told me they’re English walnut grafted onto Black walnut rootstock and were probably planted in the 1930’s.

In my last entry I mortised Brusso knife hinges into the case. The next step is glueing up the case and then fitting/hanging the doors. Here are a few photos of that process.
First I cleaned off the bench and layed the back and two sides out in sequence. The sides were already glued up in my last entry. The back has a center stile so it needed to be glued in place. That is why the back is dissasembled.

I thought I would try my hand at writing a blog here. This is a totally different way for me as far as patterns go. I am used to a pattern that is on a sheet of paper the size the object will be when done. and then you make copies and cut out the pieces of the paper pattern and place them on your wood. May 14, 2008 ~ Happy Birthday Samantha
This is one of my favorite days of the year; the day my grandaughter Samantha was born. It seems like yesterday but it was really 10 years ago.
