Awhile back Wood Magazine had an article on building a mobile outfeed table that would fit over your table saw. Since I need all the space in my garage I can get, I went ahead and built one that would fit over my table saw to give me some much needed work space and a handy outfeed table.

I have not really been woodworking all that long. I have actually owned a sawmill longer than I have been making any finished wood projects, long story. I have debated making a proper bench for some time. My old/first bench was a row of kitchen cabinets I took out on a remodel I did as a contractor with a solid plank on top. Everyone has different needs, I tried to design mine to fit the work I do. If I need to I can easily make modifications, as is I am calling it “done for now”....

After seeing the neat job that MOT/ Tom did with his shooting board I was enticed to make one of my own.I am in the middle of milling some wood for small boxes so I will needed something to handle these small gauge materials.I am a pack rat and wood hoarder by genetic make up so when I dug through one of my precious piles of scrap I found an old poplar plywood shelf, a piece of arborite (Tom’s idea) and a piece of 3/4” fir flooring plywood.The rest were off cuts of oak walnut etc ...

So, No more messin’ around! Its time to cut the hole!
With my template all biscuited and glued up, I shaved off the other half of the biscuits and sanded everything flat. With a little sanding and shaving off the inside I got the router plate to fit perfectly inside. So I decided to use my fabricated router plate template to make a one-piece template. This way I could also test the accuracy of it.

It must be about four years since I first had a vague idea of reproducing this Roman plane from around the second century AD. The original has an ivory infill body, and is remarkably complete. I gained permission from the curator of the Guildhall Museum in Beverley, East Yorkshire, England, to take some measurements and photographs when the plane was removed from its environmentally controlled cabinet for its periodic inspection.

I finally got up the strength to give sketchup a try this week. It has to be one of the most miserable programs I have ever tried to learn. There is too much information, there is too little information and almost every step involves going out somewhere over the internet to gather up the basics.
Suffice it to say that the learning curve, at least for me, is daunting.

Finally got started on Norms Miter Bench and Storage. I had previously rough cut the base components so thankfully I didn’t have to break down six sheets of 3/4 ply. I started with the rabbits and the dado’s on all of the pannels. Note, the rabbits (when called for) go on the back not the front of the panel, most important on the right cabinet (scratch one panel). I started woodworking in my early 20s (many year ago). Prior to this the only real exposure to woodworking I had was building remote controlled model aircroft out of balsa. I started by taking a year long rough carpentry course at a local community college. What does this have to do with workbenchs you wonder.. well unfortunately i will not be able to have the table saw station that i was hoping for but a router table is something i need so i am making one on the side of my table saw. i started by cutting down all the MDF with my cousin pat’s (Anthrax) help. then i started putting the torsion box together. it is all based on where the bolts are for my table saw and in the center fitted for the rockler plate that i am planning on getting in the future just i don’t have the money now. so h...

I thought I would try my hand at writing a blog here. This is a totally different way for me as far as patterns go. I am used to a pattern that is on a sheet of paper the size the object will be when done. and then you make copies and cut out the pieces of the paper pattern and place them on your wood.
