Got a client who’s being a little slow this morning, so I took the time to whip together a seat for my chair.
A few lessons learned:
I really do need to be able to visualize the chair all the way through the seat, the ad-hoc mounting here meant that the seat is a little higher than I wanted, so the backslats don’t ride on my back where I wanted.
The Domino makes joinery almost too easy. I love that tool.

Its been a few days since I could get back in the shop, we’ve had a patch of storms here and a couple of power outages that made me think that maybe I should look a little more at using hand tools :-)
I adapted a jig for making half laps that I saw in Popular Woodworking. It works great and I’ve made all the joints for the table top infrastructure. It was taking me longer to set the wood in the jig then it was to make the halflaps… and they all fit really well. I am de...

Hi guys- I promised I would post pictures of my latest project- a 1950s era Craftsman Table Saw… Sorry for the bad pic quality- these were taken with my cell phone. Here is the door that we put in. It is a hollow core door, and it is 36 inches wide. We got it at home depot for around 50 bucks. I then put on the door knob which is just a cheapy stainless steel door knob. It looks great but it took along time to shim and make the door level. So here it is. Electrical is next :O

Okay, I have talked about this for a while, and I have been saveing some money for it, but I just now started the renevation of my home shop. I am going to be downgradeing in lengh but square feet wise, it is the same. the only thing that conserns me is infeed and outfeed length for my tablesaw. I can only cut about a 4 foot board with it, but anything larger I guess I can have run out the door. Me and my dad are doing all the work ourselves. I spent some more time on the guitar project. This time adding the bracing to the back plate. Doing this glue-up required some interesting clamping operations which I describe in the post. Take a look and let me know what you think. Thanks for reading!

When I picked up the old upright piano from a lady up in Deadwood some months back I promised her I’d make something out of the old thing for her. Sheesh….months of disassembling an old piano whose soundboard is cracked…the tuning pegs can’t hold a tune….most folks would toss the old piano out at the dump. Not BarryW….I have to disassemble this piano piece by piece. Some time ago I blogged about using the bottom half of the piano for a workbench support....

Well I got a chance to make some sawdust and have trued up the table frame. Was having a bit of a problem tapering instead of truing the frame, but looked a little at my process on the jointer and realized I was leaning on the inbound side too long instead of the out bound side.
As I am intending to make this all with lap joints, I trolled through some old PopWoodworking magazines (that a friend of mine has loaned me…I guess that means she wants them back at some point…hmmmm)...
