A chair for my office #3: Finished, with reservations

146 days ago by Dan Lyke | 4 comments »

Got a client who’s being a little slow this morning, so I took the time to whip together a seat for my chair. A few lessons learned: I really do need to be able to visualize the chair all the way through the seat, the ad-hoc mounting here meant that the seat is a little higher than I wanted, so the backslats don’t ride on my back where I wanted. The Domino makes joinery almost too easy. I love that tool. For a real “Maloof” style look I need to be wo...

The Router Table Saga #3: The Jig is up

146 days ago by Mark Shymanski | 1 comment »

Its been a few days since I could get back in the shop, we’ve had a patch of storms here and a couple of power outages that made me think that maybe I should look a little more at using hand tools :-) I adapted a jig for making half laps that I saw in Popular Woodworking. It works great and I’ve made all the joints for the table top infrastructure. It was taking me longer to set the wood in the jig then it was to make the halflaps… and they all fit really well. I am de...

Shop Renevations #2: The Door

149 days ago by Woodshopfreak | 8 comments »

Here is the door that we put in. It is a hollow core door, and it is 36 inches wide. We got it at home depot for around 50 bucks. I then put on the door knob which is just a cheapy stainless steel door knob. It looks great but it took along time to shim and make the door level. So here it is. Electrical is next :O

Another New Fangled Workbench #2: Installment one, Thanks to the trailblazers and some basic layout and preliminary thoughts

149 days ago by MichaelW | 6 comments »

This is actually the original first post in the series. I am obviously learning how the blog tools work. So for part I start here and then go back to read part II… Part III and thereafter will hopefully appear in the correct sequence. I have benefited greatly from reading posts on this and other sites so this is my first attempt to return some knowledge to the community. First I would like to thank Jeff for his detailed and informative posts as they aided me greatly in addition to...

Shop Renevations #1: The start of something great

150 days ago by Woodshopfreak | 19 comments »

Okay, I have talked about this for a while, and I have been saveing some money for it, but I just now started the renevation of my home shop. I am going to be downgradeing in lengh but square feet wise, it is the same. the only thing that conserns me is infeed and outfeed length for my tablesaw. I can only cut about a 4 foot board with it, but anything larger I guess I can have run out the door. Me and my dad are doing all the work ourselves. We already moved everything over to the final plac...

The Craftsman's Path #33: Dreadnought Guitar - Adding the back braces

150 days ago by Mark Mazzo | 7 comments »

I spent some more time on the guitar project. This time adding the bracing to the back plate. Doing this glue-up required some interesting clamping operations which I describe in the post. Take a look and let me know what you think. Thanks for reading!

New Woodshop Construction #7: An Hour Here, a Half-Hour There and a Few Saturday Mornings

150 days ago by Patrick Jaromin | 16 comments »

Over the past month I found very little contiguous time to make progress on the shop setup. Consequently I never felt like I had made significant enough progress in any given week to warrant a new post. While I’m still quite some distance from the finish line, I finally feel like I can actually say, once again, “I have a shop!”Dust Collection ControlsI installed a half-dozen doorbell buttons around the shop, under bench tops near power tools, on the wall by the bandsaw and u...

Piano Key Box...huh? #1: Disassembly of piano and idea

150 days ago by BarryW | 10 comments »

When I picked up the old upright piano from a lady up in Deadwood some months back I promised her I’d make something out of the old thing for her. Sheesh….months of disassembling an old piano whose soundboard is cracked…the tuning pegs can’t hold a tune….most folks would toss the old piano out at the dump. Not BarryW….I have to disassemble this piano piece by piece. Some time ago I blogged about using the bottom half of the piano for a workbench support....
