Inspired by Rmac’s tool rest here: http://lumberjocks.com/projects/44468
After building the base I decided to simplify things a bit, eliminating the sliding piece on top as I won’t be needing it and using a single pivoting support under the tool bed allowing greater range of angles. I used 3/4” material instead of 1/2”. It’s not quite done, there is a 1/4” dowel acting as the pivot pin until I get to the store and buy a 1/4” carriage bolt and wingn...

After disassembling, cleaning, greasing, oiling and reassembling, I scraped and wire brushed the exterior then applied a coat of light coat of oil and wiped off the excess. She purrs like a kitten now.
Better image of the unusual grease zerk. It can actually be seen now that I’ve removed about 1/16” of crud.
Voila!
This thing spins like a top, they sure knew how to make ‘em back in the day. It’ll outlast me.

This came in today, a hand crank grinder, model 85, from Prairie Tool Co. Prairie du Chien, WI.; made sometime after 1920.

The threads were in rough shape. After buying a 7/16×20 nut and filing the threads a bit I finally realized they were left handed… another trip to the har...
