Shop Organization #10: Workbench Cabinet Finished!

635 days ago by gizmodyne | 14 comments »

It was a bit dreary out today. I had a little tea in the afternoon and that motivated me to get out and finish the cabinet. Getting ready to assemble ten drawers. The plan: Staple the heck out of it.Getting ready to assemble ten drawers. With the four sides together I applied a bead of glue along the bottom edge. You can see the alignment mark. The ply panel is glued and stapled flush to the drawer front. The finished “masterwork” Notice the copious plane shavi...

Outfeed-Assembly Bench #1: The start and the BIG mistake

647 days ago by JasonK | 10 comments »

So , my last project has turned into a bit of a disappointment. I’ve been working on a new outfeed/assembly table to sit behind my tablesaw. I had a plan in my head, I’d bought my plywood for the carcass and had an old hollow core door for the top. I was so proud of myself. Instead of rushing through and fixing my mistakes as I went, I spent some time with SketchUp to get a basic idea of what I wanted then put pencil to paper. I measured the height of my table saw then measured all of th...

Workbench 101

661 days ago by PanamaJack | 20 comments »

Over the past several years I have been needing and wanting to buy or maybe just make a workbench. I have gone to five woodworking shows in three states over the past two years. At these shows and in several magazines or catalogs I have noticed many of these really nice woodworking benches that are way far out of my reach as far as the $$$ involved. Finally after a elongated sick spell lasting nearly two months I finally get few boards together, screws, a very few nails and other items tha...

Need a little wood insight

675 days ago by Shopsmithtom | 7 comments »

While this question for the group knowledge base probably is not of any real significance, I figure that someone here has the answer, so, since it’s been bugging me all morning, here goes.I stopped at a big home improvement lumber type store this morning (that shall remain nameless, but it starts with “M”) and I was walking through the lumber area (no, I didn’t buy any…I didn’t need any “propeller” shaped 2×4’s or “c” shap...

Shop Organization #4: Flip Top Planer Cart Part 2.. Doh!

677 days ago by gizmodyne | 7 comments »

I started today by gluing up the top. Doh! #1I decided to use Dominos for the project and did not pick the right size so I cut all the way through the case. Fix. I decided to use through Dominos for the project. Actually the shelves are held in by through Dominos and a false dado I created by layering plywood on the outer pieces. Glue and staples hold the second layer on. Left to right = bottom to top of side Case AssemblyAssembly is a snap with the Dominos. They hold the p...

Shop Organization #3: Flip Top-Planer Cart Part 1. and Screw Thread Question

683 days ago by gizmodyne | 12 comments »

Planer cartI decided to build a flip top cart for my planer. I looked through several forums, magazines, and plans and decided on a hybrid of the Wood and Woodsmith plans. My drawings and notes. I am using plywood left from building the shop. It is a rough luan. A different look for shop stuff. My first rip with the SawStop. Very cool. Dead accurate. So different from using my little Ridgid. The top is made of two matching pieces. I cut a dado in the top to house a 1/2” ste...

Tool Cabinet #2: Respect to all cabinet builders...

690 days ago by Sgt_Lobo | 18 comments »

For all of you cabinet builders on this site, my hat is off to you! I never fully realized the work that is involved in making a cabinet and how even the smallest mistakes can compound so very quickly… Right before Christmas I posted this blog asking for input on plans for a tool cabinet. Well, I took all the advice I received and have been furiously building over the holidays. Here is where I stand—I have completed the actual “cabinet” portion of the project. ...

Tool Cabinet #1: Requesting input on my plans...

721 days ago by Sgt_Lobo | 16 comments »

One of the good things about being in the Air Force is that, if you aren’t deployed, most of us can expect to get a good amount of time off around the holidays. I’m expecting a little over a week off between Christmas and New Years, so I though I’d better start another project to keep me busy and out of trouble. While working on my Xmas projects I needed a nail punch. I spent 3 hours looking around my garage before I finally found it conveniently placed underneath one o...

Tools #1: Ezee-Feed

736 days ago by Thos. Angle | 6 comments »

I had been wanting one of Lee Jesberger’s Ezee-Feeds ever since I first saw it. It looked like a great solution to the problem I was having getting a decent job of cutting sheet goods.Carleen and I fought the last cabinet job with a 4 roller stand and the new outfeed table I put on the saw. It was certainly better than the single roller stand we had been using. The out feed table and the new big workbench really took care of the out feed side but getting it started was still a two man(O...
