First time using new thickness planer

619 days ago by dalec | 18 comments »

It always seems in preparing to do something, I find I have to do several other related things to get to that thing I want to get done. This much the same in my search for a way to flatten some boards I have. I am just starting out with not a lot of equipment, but have found a need to flatten some boards. It was suggested to me that I look at getting a planer as a next purchase rather than a jointer. In part this was a budgetary issue and also a space issue. I have been using my shop...

684 days ago by gizmodyne | 12 comments »

Planer cartI decided to build a flip top cart for my planer. I looked through several forums, magazines, and plans and decided on a hybrid of the Wood and Woodsmith plans. My drawings and notes. I am using plywood left from building the shop. It is a rough luan. A different look for shop stuff. My first rip with the SawStop. Very cool. Dead accurate. So different from using my little Ridgid. I suggest following on with this tutorial and weighing the pros and cons of construction, before making a f...

The quick and dirty instructions on how to make a zig-zag pattern cutting board. Click on the pictures to see a full size image. Choose a couple different types of hardwood. The more colors the better. Below is cherry, maple and walnut. Rip strips of wood any width so the total with is about 12”. This is the width that will fit through my planer. The beauty of this is that none of the widths have to be the same. The board shown below is made of scrape wood. If you only have shor...

79 days ago by poroskywood | 21 comments »

Hey everybody, after a few personal messages here is my version of a how to on a Drunken Checker Board. I of coarse bow to the Chairman of the Board and pay tribute with beer. This is a Off-Checker pattern I call “Drunken Alice in Wonderland” The “serendipitous” nature of this piece is appealing in a far out sort of way. Here Goes… So first I prepare the Material. I am using Hard Maple and Walnut both are surfaced flat and cut 1” x 9” x 14&...
