"Palm Box" tutorial

1353 days ago by Andy | 88 comments »

I am very sorry that the tutorial is still down. I lost all the pictures and just have moved on to other things. But the good news is that others have come to the rescue with their own tutorials and are just as good…even better than mine. Here is one by Scott http://lumberjocks.com/projects/58221Andy

Building an Outdoor Shower at the Beach

1893 days ago by npcarey | 3 comments »

My next big project is to construct a new outdoor shower enclosure at the back of my mother-in-law’s beach house. The current phase is design, which I think I’ve finally finished using Sketchup. I had been struggling with Sketchup until I heard about a web site called http://www.sketchupforwoodworkers.com where there were tutorials specifically for using sketchup for woodworking. That got me hooked and within a week of starting Sketchup I’ve come up with a very complete m...

Bowling Alley Workbench #1: Conceptual Design 1 - feedback appreciated

1912 days ago by PurpLev | 21 comments »

So after we've got the bowling alleys. now it’s time to put them to to use (not really ‘now now’ but … you know what I mean). So, I really would like to make this one a keeper, and not have to redo this bench unless I really fancy it in the future with lots of extra time on my hands and nothing better to do with it (hence – not likely it’ll happen), and in order to do that, I figured I’ll make this one as close as I can to the ‘ultimate’...

Entertainment Center #1: Base Cabinet

2070 days ago by DocK16 | 9 comments »

With flat screen TV prices dropping like gas and the holidays fast approaching the guys at Woodsmith Magazine were right on target with this months issue featuring an Entertainment/Media Center. I have been looking for unique set of plans for for an Entertainment Center for some time and this months issue arrived the day after the wifey and I agreed a new flat screen would be our Christmas present to each other. If you’re not familiar with Woodsmith check out their website which has...

Workbench #1: Design Plans

1168 days ago by CartersWhittling | 8 comments »

Hello. These are the plans I have for a new workbench. I think I have decided that now is the time to build a bench I won’t need to remake. I have done lots of studing on workbench designs and could not decide between the German bench and the Roubo because of the leg vise. I had some thoughts in mind to making a double sided bench and incorporating both bench designs. I soon came across the Edwards bench. http://woodtreks.com/design-build-traditional-woodworking-workbench-tail-shoulder-...

New Yankee Miter Bench Vs. Utimate Tool Stand #2: Initial Plan

2026 days ago by scarpenter002 | 12 comments »

So I started playing with Sketchup and came up with the basic concept for this combination bench. Here are few diagrams I put together: Next for the combination of New Yankee Miter Bench/Ultimate Tool Stand, I will add the t-tracks, clamp tracks, miter fence, and create the pocket hole jig insert. Thanks for reading.

Virtual Designs in Sketchup #5: Rolling Wood Storage Rack

1173 days ago by rance | 7 comments »

I’ve seen several variations of these rolling wood storage units. Inspired by them, I came up with this one for a friend of mine: It incorporates storage for long lumber, sheet goods, and small turning blocks as well. About the only thing I might add would be dowel storage of some kind. Truth be told, I’d probably just put them in tubes and store them on one of the shelves. It is a typical A-Frame design with half lapped joints. For economy, most of the stick material is...

Cutting Board: How To's #2: Zig Zag Cutting Board Patterns - Inspirational

1417 days ago by McLeanVA | 22 comments »

I was absolutely overwhelmed by the positive response to my Zig Zag How To blog post yesterday, that I decided to brainstorm some possible combinations (on my lunch break) using the basic steps I outlined yesterday. All of the same techniques and steps apply, and really the only difference is the woods and measurements that make up the original “sticks.” Same rules apply to width = height. Length is up to you. Please experiment with whatever measurements and combinations strike...

The Ultimate Workbench as designed and used by www.paulkhomes.com

1051 days ago by David LaBolle | 9 comments »

This is a non traditional workbench designed and built by a homebuilder as his work site saw table. It is a fairly simple design, yet quite sophisticated at the same time. It is very well thought out and quite useful. What makes this one special is the way he designed it to give you space to keep your tools all at hand, but not taking up space on the work surface. I have a feeling that many of the Lumber Jocks here will appreciate it and perhaps want to use it for inspiration. This is u...

Router Table #2: The Motor's In - Triton 3.25hp TRC001 1/2" Precision Router

1711 days ago by PurpLev | 14 comments »

It really started a while back, I got hooked on the idea of a router lift for the table after seeing the Incra Router lift with the magnetic inserts. after that the obsession was fed by finding Woodpeckers’ router lifts with the quick release mechanism which allows for quick lift of the router to rough positioning, and for pulling it all the way up for over the table bit change. then came the Woodpeckers PRL-V2 (also rebranded by Incra with their magnetic inserts, and recently also r...
