Hi everybody…....My husband finally got the floor finished…...he did a fantastic job I might add and now…..I finally sucked up enough courage to get started on my kitchen cabinets. The kitchen and dining area is 14 ft wide x 24.6 ft long. My cabinets are made of plywood and my face frames and doors are made out of hickory. I have never worked on a set of kitchen cabinets before, so I am pretty much learning this on my own. I have a friend on here that gives me advice whe...

I am trying to build a buffet table for my mom for Christmas- from scratch. I have drawn up 7 different plans. I cant make up my mind which one, so I went to my local hardware store to look at wood, hoping this would help, well the gentleman that was helping me – insulted me, he asked what kind of tools I had, I told him, the he said “well that’s your problem, why don’t you go back into the kitchen and let the man of the house do it! I looked at him and said “Not married, no boyfr...

Yes. Finally some light at the end of the tunnel, reverse thinking, and this project seems a bit more doable, and even not much trouble at all.
Originally I tried to get the (2.5” hardened) nails out by using a cat’s paw and a hammer to pull each nail out of the 2.5 laminated hard-rock maple strips. I figured once I get all the nails out of the top strip, it’ll just free it from the lamination, and be nails free… one strip at a time, until I have them all cleared ou...

I’ve been really busy trying to learn SketchUp.
My Son needs a new front porch on his home.
I decided this would be a good way to learn SketchUp.
His old concrete steps have been gradually leaning, & it makes the whole house seem crooked.
He said if he sits on a step, he feels like he’s going to fall off.
This was quite an experience for me, because I’ve used a T-square, & triangles for so long.
This project took me an awfully long time, but I learn...

Drill two holes in the fence . one a little larger.. to take 1/4 ” bolts . Mark these positions on the base and drill these holes to attach the fence to the base. One bolt is held with a nut and other with a Knob.[for adjustment in fine tuning the fence if necessary].
Drill two addition holes in the fence to accept 1/4 ” bolts for tightening the bridge clamps.[These holes got through the fence only] Refer to the photo. In his pic you may see that I inserted a bearing to serve as...

I think we would all agree that woodworkers in general are the first ones to help a neighbor or friend. With that said sometimes a person in need wont ask you. The economy is bad people are having a rough time, the guys that do this for a living are taking it hard. so the point of this is lets listen to our fellow jocks and see what they need if you can help with some materials or point some of these guys toward a venue to sell there works that all will come full circle. So if any one has som...

Well, I was asked to put together a blog on how I made my segmentd ring. Since I had to make a new one for myself, (first one too small) I thought I would go ahead and do a step by step picture tutorial. My first time ever doing something like this , so hope it comes out OK.
Here goes;
Wood Selection
The first step in making the ring is deciding what woods to use. As we all know, the selection is quite large. One of the most important things is color, but the most important is hardne...

Hi guys ,, I had a request to make a tutorial with regards the endgrain Tumbling Block Design.First off,.., You need to decide the size of the blocks…. for this example I used 1” stock… Or something similar.. actually just over .. once dressed.
Set the blade of the table saw to 60 degrees.. a bevel box makes this simpleI use the INCRA fence system so it is easy to rip bevels off side of the blade.Once the bevels are ripped measure the length of the bevel and move the f...

Hey Lumberjocks
I ran a test run of tiles. All finished the same way with the exception of background color. All are fired stoneware clay handpressed into a plaster mold made from one of my wood carvings.
10 backgrounds with a wash of bronze finish … see my 100 pounds of clay blog to see the brand.
These are unique in that the bronze finish is patinated using “liver of sulphur” to a dark brown.. Topcoat is a matt laqcuer to lock in the patina.
My question is which...
