Hello fellow woodworkers,
I have enjoyed looking at all of the excellent projects displayed on LJ. They inspire designs and urge me to make that next piece even even more challenging. All these project are shown to the world via pictures. A picture is your way of expressing the time and effort you have spent on a piece. It is important to take time on the composition and setup of your picture taking to optimize the quality of your pictures. After all, you have spent countless hours wo...

It is a pretty awesome photo, but I won’t repost it here. Check it out over on NPR, which also has an article about it, a movie on the making-of, and a slideshow.

Thanks to Martin, I’m now a proud owner of a classy new Lumberjocks T-shirt
At the request of Martin, I’m posting this photo of myself modeling it.
I want to Thank Martin again for honoring me with this prize.
I may not have qualified for this award,
if I had been out in my shop more, & spent less time on the computer.
But now I’m glad I ”Did what I Did”

I recently invested about $40 bucks on a large sheet of black velvet from the fabric store for a photo background. I just wanted people to know that It is easy to take great display photos with a small investment.
Any black material would work well, including less expensive felt or cotton. Even a sheet would be fine. I splurged for the velvet because my wife decided she could use it for taking pictures of jewelry she makes as well.
Just lay the velvet over your couch and give it good di...

OK, so I “cheated.”
I typically assemble face frames with pocket screws. It’s simple, fast and strong enough. Since this face frame is composed of 1” x 3/4” members, pocket screws seemed a bit weak to me—I’d only be able to use a single screw in each member, which would allow it to “spin” somewhat. While this would be minimized greatly after gluing to the carcass, some “twist” could still occur over time. Since the drawers w...

Cabin Renovation and Progress
....and so I continue on today with some shots of an outside//inside wood project, that has been eating up some of my time.
Time delays….running with the after-effects of projected numbers on sheets of paper, that can never catch up to the reality of why is this not done….yet!
I am not interested in excuses for delay;I am interested only in a thing done.—-Jawaharial Hehru
So put some warm clothes on….hope you remembered to brin...

All Creation Awaits….
....how well you exercise your own creativity, will only be matched by the time you spend ignoring what other’s say, and getting on with the real work of creating a place for what you have to say, even to the point of daring to pique or provoke at the same time....
What you have to show of your work, will in time be measured by the hours of toil and sweat you have invested and not by dancing to the tune of those who gather around to offer compliments of...

Parabolic Works of ‘Wood Art’
....today is my moment of now, like where was yesterday when all is past, and what be-comes of foresight in tommorow, is but a shadow of finding past….
—-so once again i go ahead.
....who plows a furrow with their head stuck in some frown, and what gives those other’s right to say follow this way, tis no-small thing to walk behind the footsteps of some ridiculous king, like now i tend to know that all was for their pleasurab...

First of all if you’ve not been reading my series on the upcoming and ongoing ”LJ Woodworking Awards – Winter 2008” then you might want to click here and read what a lot of LJ’s have all-ready been reading about now and discussing since Debbie announced the ”Upcoming Awards Event” in the November eMag.

Yesterday while talking about snow, & added my carved moose antler project, it was brought up about me working with different kinds of material. I’ve also worked with steel. I mentioned the department I worked for groomed snowmobile trails. The department allowed me to design, & fabricate a machine for smoothing, & packing trails. I built two of these machines. Here are some images of the machine.
PS: Wood is still my favorite material.
