Hello fellow woodworkers,
I have enjoyed looking at all of the excellent projects displayed on LJ. They inspire designs and urge me to make that next piece even even more challenging. All these project are shown to the world via pictures. A picture is your way of expressing the time and effort you have spent on a piece. It is important to take time on the composition and setup of your picture taking to optimize the quality of your pictures. After all, you have spent countless hours wo...

Thanks to Martin, I’m now a proud owner of a classy new Lumberjocks T-shirt
At the request of Martin, I’m posting this photo of myself modeling it.
I want to Thank Martin again for honoring me with this prize.
I may not have qualified for this award,
if I had been out in my shop more, & spent less time on the computer.
But now I’m glad I ”Did what I Did”

I recently invested about $40 bucks on a large sheet of black velvet from the fabric store for a photo background. I just wanted people to know that It is easy to take great display photos with a small investment.
Any black material would work well, including less expensive felt or cotton. Even a sheet would be fine. I splurged for the velvet because my wife decided she could use it for taking pictures of jewelry she makes as well.
Just lay the velvet over your couch and give it good di...

It is a pretty awesome photo, but I won’t repost it here. Check it out over on NPR, which also has an article about it, a movie on the making-of, and a slideshow.

Visual Imagination
….so the lighting and thunder clap their hands, a leaf falls to the ground sending forth vibrations of welcome, an ant crawls out from under that leaf in the light of day, and i stare just knowing that all ‘just is’ as should be….
—-from my place of silence in these wooded fields of dreams, comes an-other much like my-self seeking repose, after all what use is body or soul confined to theological debate, when by the spirit one learns to d...

Savage Semblance of Colors
....and for from where-all comes beauty, as i am extolled amongst the sweetened background of your desire, while coming forth into the arena of eye as i, so that in this place of savage semblance of colors i give thanks….
And so I thought I would take a lazy morning stroll down the paths of close to home today, before I enter into the toiling of be-grimed striving to make work a place of play. So the invitations have now been sent out, for any and all t...

When I awoke yesterday morning, I thought I was dreaming. It sounded like rain drops on our roof. Sure enough, it was raining like crazy. That was at 6 AM. About 2 hours later it started snowing, & we ended up with a little over 4”.
This morning our back yard looked like a fairyland. Here is one of the images.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE !!!
