As promised, I’ve gotten some photos of old Moby into useable condition. Evidently when the contractor felled the tree to make room for the house (interesting priorities!) he squared one end: The other end has what I’ve affectionately come to call the “Lobster claw.” This is one side of it: And the other side: This is a photobucket-enhanced view of the whole thing. Wood gloat

I have a wood gloat. A neighbor of mine is going to build a new house in town and purchased a piece property that had a bunch of pecan trees on it. He ended up needing 4 of them cut down and i was able to get what i wanted from the trees before people came and got firewood. So i now have enough pecan to turn bowls for a few years. If anyone is in the central Mississippi area and would like some give me a post. There are a few more logs not in the pictures!

If you’re going to get a start, it might as well be dramatic. I’ve gotten my first commissioned piece, which when finished should resemble an outdoor bar made of pecan and mesquite. The slab of pecan has been in the client’s garage for a decade, since it was harvested because their new bedroom was going to occupy the same space. It is presently 12’ long, 4” thick and 19” wide.
