This project is building a childs rocking chair. Marc at thewoodwhisperer.com is organizing this and this is a charity fund raising project towards woodworkers with cancer. Hi everyone.
I was trying to figure out a way to store some of my fasteners and small parts which lead me to construct this.
Take some Dollar Store baking pans, some scrap wood, and a little routing, sanding & painting and problem solved. I then use my label maker to identify what is in each pan. I’m still sorting things out, but so far it’s worked great. You can take the one you need to your work area and bring it back when you’re done.

Yesterday was such a beautiful day, wasn’t too cold, and the sky was blue (today is cloudy and rainy). I was fortunate enough to be able to use the day for some woodworking.
I am at the point where I usually run into trouble. I have a tendency to want to work on the joinery and the problem is that I usually do that before I have all the parts ready leaving me with some parts that go together, but still require work to get the rest of it as well. The dado for the juniper panels (see the image of the parts) is quite wide. I used a 1” straight router bit in the saw table. I was inattentive on one and let it get by about 3/4”. Though the error would likely never be seen, I decided to plug it. In the image you’ll see the plug glued in and the scrap from which it was taken. The second one shows the result of putting a little glue in the voids and sanding with a RO machine and 150x.

During the construction of a project there is often a need for organizing and storing parts. This is obvously a temporary need because as the work progresses, you construct parts and then assemble them.
I like to use a 4’ scaffold as a mobile cart to store and organize the parts that I have made.

I used to do the baby food and mayo jars with the lids nailed under the shelf thing.But after I joined the Navy I had to go more mobile.I started putting my screws and nails into Gatorade bottles.The nice thing is I can put a piece of bailing wire around the neck with a loop on it and hang it on a pegboard.Since the bottle is clear I can see at a glance what’s in it.Right now I don’t have a pegboard wall, but the filing cabinets (another blog entry) work pretty good for keeping th...

Started cutting out the parts to the 9 additional single beds only and WOW that is a lot of cutting. I figured 522 pieces (58 each). The drawer have the most at 423 (47 each). I didn’t just cut and rip them, some had to be edge banded and then comes the sanded.

I will be writing this in sort of walkthrough form; so I will include my resources as they come. I am getting parts from Numrich Arms and the direct page for this gun is here. They have a passable exploded diagram on that page but the one I use comes out of the Gun Digest diagrams book. Same diagram for the most part, though. Templates and Jigs
Whenever we do a project that has the potential to be built again, or if the design is somewhat difficult, we’ll spend the time to build a jig. This is a process that pays back big dividends, and has been practiced for hundreds of years.
In the first instance, it makes sense to speed up the process of duplicating it. This prevents you from having to record all the dimensions and engineering that went into the piece. A very big time saver.
