Seeking advice on Floating Panel Box Tops ???

770 days ago by Blake | 4 comments »

I have never quite been sure what the rule of thumb is for floating panels in box tops. I am relying on some of you seasoned folks on this one. I know there are a lot of different opinions on the application of floating panels. When is it necessary? When is it not? Are there certain sizes, widths, woods, or thicknesses that you can get away with without floating the panel? I have not made enough boxes to know from experience. As you can tell from my projects, I pretty much try something...

Relief Carving My Birger Sandzen-Inspired Desk Door Panel, A step-by-Step Log.

780 days ago by Mark A. DeCou | 18 comments »

I hesitate to do this, that which I am about to do. I don’t fancy myself as a good carver, or a great picture drawer. Especially with so many lumberjocks that are great carvers here that will see this. On top of that, there are so many great carvers on the internet that will stumble onto this blog because they surf the net. With that said, after Mark Mazzo asked about the process I go through to do a carved panel like this one, I thought about it for awhile, and decided to show th...

Custom Dishwasher Panel Progress #5: Domino-ed breadboards

798 days ago by gizmodyne | 10 comments »

DominoThis is only my second project using the domino. This time I set the fence on top of the workpiece instead of setting both on the work surface. I was trying to center the tenon. It worked, but I am not sure if I mastered the technique since some of the parts are not perfectly flush. Possibly I rocked it on the narrow breadboards. I should have put a support piece behind the work piece. It is only a hair from flush though. I set the domino for exact width cuts (8×50mm dominos...

Custom Dishwasher Panel Progress #2: Stocking Up.

803 days ago by gizmodyne | 7 comments »

MotivationWife: Just get out there and start working on it. Good advice actually. I was dead tired after some yard work, but I went into the shop Sunday afternoon on Kristin’s advice. Board SelectionI made some changes to the cutlist to reflect a few new measurements. Also I did not have enough wide boards and wanted to avoid having to slice up any more beams. Revised cut list So I culled through my pile of old fir and pulled out some prime specimens. I finished up Sunday...

Happy Fathers Day to all of my LumberJock buddies, and a belated Happy Mothers Day to all of the Lady Jocks! I am looking forward to using the LumberJock CyberToolShare feature to explore everyone’s shop and check out what goodies you all got for Fathers Day! Quarter Size Cherry Quilt Chests #4: Tom's Domino at Work!

902 days ago by David | 18 comments »

Cherry Chest Update Well I got to squeeze in some time out in the shop and work on the cherry chests that are being built for the Annual Quilt Show in Sisters, Oregon. They will be on display at The Clearwater Gallery. I could not resist the new LumberJock CyberToolShare s feature, so I hopped on the internet late one night and borrowed Tom’s Festool Domino. I used the Domino to assemble the frame and panels into the final box. The Domino was amazingly quick. So quick, that I...
