Victorian Skater Pond Scene #6: Anna and Jacqueline

09-24-2010 01:50 PM by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 2 comments »

Anna and Jacqueline are sisters. Although they sometimes quarrel, they are truly best friends. Anna, the eldest of the two is quite a tomboy. She loves to run and climb and play sports. Her mother bought her a wonderful woolen plaid coat in hopes of encouraging her to act more like a ‘lady’, but Anna sees it more of a nuisance. Why does she have to be a girl anyway? Jacqueline, on the other hand, loves being a girl. Her favorite playthings are her soft, cuddly teddy bear...

My Journey As A Creative Designer - Woodworking and Beyond #78: Another Skating Figure Complete - Meet "Sonja"

08-20-2010 01:11 PM by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 3 comments »

Yesterday was a good day for tying up loose ends. It seemed that about half the day was writing to customers and answering emails. I enjoy that part of the job though, because it really lets me get to know my customers a little better. I also get to see some of the wonderful work they do. I also have some personal correspondences to keep up with. I have one friend in particular who wrote me yesterday. She is a friend from high school, but we became friends more so when I kids were bab...

Victorian Skater Pond Scene #1: Sophie and Claude in a One Horse Open Sleigh

08-14-2010 01:14 PM by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 6 comments »

This is a project that I will show as an ongoing work in progress. When I was a little girl, my grandparents had the most wonderful Christmas decorations. They had some beautiful hand-blown glass ornaments from Czechoslovakia among other treasures. One of my all time favorite decorations that they had was a little skating pond scene which they placed under the tree every year. The pond itself was a round mirror and the figures were made of (what I now know is) painted lead. We would u...

My Journey As A Creative Designer - Woodworking and Beyond #72: The Two Choices are 'Scratch' or 'Sleep'

08-14-2010 12:41 PM by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 2 comments »

Well, yesterday was pretty much a wash. I went to the pharmacy in the morning to get something to deal with the bites and the pharmacist said “Wow. Those look bad” (no kidding) He gave me some cortisone cream and told me that pretty much my only option was Benedryl. He said that it should clear them up in a few days. I told him that it really made me sleepy, but he said there was really nothing else that would help. So I came home and put the creme on right away and held o...

The American Craftsman WorkShop #13: Reorganizing the Shop Day 4

10-09-2009 01:44 PM by Todd A. Clippinger | 13 comments »

Coming Down The Home Stretch Yesterday I finished the mud work where I removed the double doors. I also took the opportunity to patch the wall and ceiling where flying projectiles had left their impressions. I mounted a couple of hose reels that I bought several years ago. I had bought three originally and I mounted one but put the other two on the shelf. The first one broke and I tossed it during this round of organization. Now I have two but that is quite adequate for my shop. I us...

A House Warming Gift #4: Necessary Steps

04-06-2009 01:38 AM by littlecope | 1 comment »

If anybody read this from the beginning, I mentioned that this small sign was going to have an Oval Back. wdkits1 sent me a note inviting me to view his ellipse marking device, and I thank him, and that’s a nice thing, but I’m too lazy to go to that much trouble! Besides, when I was searching for scrap wood to make the lettering I came across theseThey were amongst a bunch of wood scraps that were given to me by Parent’s Neighbors. Finials, I suppose, because there were also...
