I have a great friend that is learning to do woodworking. He has been working hard at it the past 5 years, or so, and building some adult Adirondack Chairs was his first entry into making his own project. I suggested a curved seat, and a curved back for comfort (I had spent about 18 months perfecting my own Adirondack chair design, before I gave up), but he wanted to make them simpler.

After many months in the planning, designing, and reding on other peoples builds of air cleaners, the day before Thanksgiving I came upon an ad on craigslist of a JDS Air-Tech 2000 Model 750. I figured that if I was to build one – it would end up costing about as much as the JDS model, but will not have the same filtration quality, it’ll be heavier (wood construction as opposed to metal frame), and it’ll take me time to build it. time that could be used to build woodworking ...

Probably not what I’d do on some projects, but on this one it was the perfect opportunity to let my daughter draw and paint the horse prior to sealing it.
She was so excited helping out and painting it that it was all worth it. I basically let her complete freedom and a full set of brushes and water colors and away she went.

Continuing to work up the saw I got the next big chunk of work done, the motor and the motor carriage. I followed pretty much the same process I used while doing the base. Like I said before, this saw is in great working shape and had been used daily by the gentleman that had it before. I both the motor bearings and track bearings had already been replaced. They were in good shape so all I needed to do was give them a thorough cleaning.

Sometimes you just have to spend the day doing something silly. I woke up yesterday morning, fully intending to spend the day drawing the next design for the magazine and getting some work done and somehow by mid-morning, I decided that I wanted to “play” do something else for the day.

The paint was peeling, many shingles were missing, or severely damaged. The rafter tails were rotted. It was time to paint.
We quickly removed the a.c. unit from the front of the house and the rat highway (Palm tree).
We found a painter through a neighbor (Good fortune since he painted the house whose colors we liked).
Did I mention the missing shingles?

The next step is cutting and installing the sides of the frame. This method includes building the frame to the top instead of building a frame then adding the top. It makes for perfectly smooth sides.

In my recent blogs I posted videos on a Contemporary Clock that I built. While doing that I found some video I taped while finishing it. The face of the clock was finished with spray cans and the main assembly of the clock was stained with a spray gun. In the first part Ill show how I spray this cool looking stone paint on the face with black buttons.I really love spraying water based stains and dyes and in the next part Ill show you some of the basics to water based finishing.
