Started adding a french cleat system to keep my tiny little space organized. I had tons of scrap pieces of plywood and dowels hanging around from previous projects so was able to make good use of it. I absolutely love this setup and have had a lot of fun building out all the attachments for the wall.
One of the future follow on project from the Norms Miter Bench project was to build in a sand paper organizer into one of the drawers of the bench. In early February a fellow LJ KnotWright told me about a liquidation sale from the shutdown of a Dell production line. I bought a bunch of things but one of the jewels was a 2’x2’ bin for PC components on the assembly line. I looked at it, knew that it would fit in one of my drawers and immediately re-purposed it in my head. With all of...
I have redesigned this thing several times, waaay overdesigned it in SketchUp while briefly mad with visions of increasingly elaborate designs in even the most utilitarian of shop storage solutions, and tried to build it 3 times previously, giving up nearly immediately each time when things failed to work out. I’ve switched between construction grade ply and premium baltic birch ply. I’ve failed to account for kerf and cut things undersized, and failed to check ply for square befo...
I Am On Fire! It was -15° outside but I was burning up in the shop with an intense desire to organize the lumber rack and get rid of extra stock. This was the last of three projects that I started during the Christmas/New Years week. 1. Sheet the last unfinished wall with plywood.2. Create a sheet goods organizer3. Organize lumber rack and get rid of extra lumber Here is the before picture of the lumber storage area. But take a look at the lumber and sheet goods area now! ...
Had some shop time today with 42 degrees outside, it was quite a lovely day. my compressor came back to life also – I guess when it goes below 40 the air is too thin for the compressor to be able to raise the pressure in the tank. I also got the radiant heater from Lee Valley. Last time around, by the time I decided to order it- they were out of stock, and just received new stock this week. it works well, not as well as I was hoping for, but decent. To turn it on/off you have to yank...
Gift Horse PowerThe shop is only a year and a half own and I am constantly cleaning and organizing. Tools have accumulated quicker than I can file them. Kristin’s Grandfather has been giving me tools like crazy.Just two weeks ago(along with yard tools and some nice portable power tools) I received the following: He still had the original documentation. I am not sure what to do with it since I have a large floor press. Love the design. Salvage yardI also have a problem with coll...
it seems like my shop’s to-do list is expanding at about the same speed as the universe. anyways here is some pics of my progress in my attempts to keep it clean and organized. seems i can never keep the place from resembling a pig stye this is my pegboard cabinet after i stored of my stuff on the outer boards and here’s the inside. i wish the rest of my shop looked as organized and last but not least ive also been adding storage to the doors to keep my saws and cord...
With all the new storage boxes that we acquired the other day shopping, it was inevitable that what would follow would be an organizational session. Many people comment on how we are able to keep so organized running a business from our small place. Even Ellen (who is notorious for being neat) said something to me when we stopped there on our way home. She had said that her and Cindy (her daughter) were talking about us the other day and were both amazed that we are able to keep things so cl...
Purging the Lumber Rack Woodworkers naturally have the hoarding instinct and this must be kept in check with strict discipline. The lumber rack has been gathering leftover material and unique pieces of wood for years with little culling to insure the quality of the collection. I cleared three small shelves first and gave a good stack of wood away to a local LumberJock member. He got a Porter Cable dovetail jig for Christmas and this will keep him busy with making boxes. I had the wood b...
Ultimate Mobile Woodworking Bench (UMWB) #9: Overall impressions of my Ultimate Mobile Woodworking Bench
I have to say I’m very pleased with the UHWB. I started work on it a few months ago and it’s been usable for the last month and a half. These last two weeks on Christmas vacation gave me time to really focus and get it finished. After way too many years of makeshift garage workshops in rented houses, it feels great to have an organized workspace that I know I can take with me almost anywhere. I built a small bookcase for my wife’s craft room and it went very smoothly. Her...
