Garage Re-Do #16: Air Filter Arrived!

03-06-2009 04:24 PM by MyOldGarage | 3 comments »

That’s a peek down the inside of the new Wynn Environmental filter - the 9E300BL one. I’m anxious to get some cutting done and get this puppy mounted on my Grizzly dust collector. Once I get it mounted and that, I’m going to move it over to a more permanent location and run one trunk of at least 6 inch pipe to the unit. The only problem with that is the PVC to “air pipe” sizing. It’s just frustrating to measure stuff and see the differences. I can...

Garage Shop Organization #1: Garage Organization Project

01-22-2014 12:15 AM by CanuckMike | 7 comments »

Eviction Notice So my shop was located down in our basement but we decided to finish it so I had to move into the garage. It wouldn’t be as warm in the winter but it had a much bigger access door and no stairs to lug heavy pieces up. So out everything moved. As you would expect it was a mess tools were piled in totes and stacked as high as I could reach. After a few very frustrating years living out of totes, never seeming to find the tool I was looking for, it was time to get ...

Garage Organization By a Newbie #6: Something's Finally Built!

08-04-2010 07:25 AM by CyBorge | 4 comments »

The shelving unit is in service! I ended up using 1/2” plywood all around instead of vertical 2×4’s. I also decided not to depend on the garage walls for primary support, so it can be moved if desired, though I did screw it to a plywood strip that was pre-mounted on the wall. Even though the unit is strong enough on its own, that simple action added a ton of rigidity. Here’s what it looks like, all full of hastily loaded junk, but keep in mind the paint is actually ...

From garage to workshop #1: A preliminary survey

02-06-2014 08:20 AM by JSOvens | 8 comments »

Hello fellow LJs and visitors, I am a fairly new member here on the Lumberjocks website and have so far only managed to post one project (the one that got me into this woodworking ‘mess’). I have done quite a few other small projects (which I may post in due time), but there has been one thing throughout all of my woodworking ‘life’ (about a year by now) which has been bothering me and constantly hampering my progress on any project: a messy, disorganized workshop! ...

Odds 'N' Ends #6: Magnetic Forstner Bit Storage

02-04-2016 10:36 PM by ThomasLightle | 0 comments »

I thought I would try something different for bit storage this time. I grabbed one of those magnetic tool holders from Harbor Freight, cut a bunch of V-grooves into it with the bench grinder and bam, instant Forstner bit rack. What do you guys think?Enjoy! Magnetic Forstner Bit Storage

My Journey As A Creative Designer - Woodworking and Beyond #1753: Returning to "Normal"

08-01-2016 12:14 PM by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 4 comments »

As we begin this month of August, I am finally feeling as if things are getting back to 'normal'. Defining what that means isn't always easy, but after months of distractions and preparations and then our actual move, it feels pretty good.Everything essential to our daily living is just about done. Furniture is here and in place, boxes are put away and shops are set up. The most important thing though is that our 'creative places' are clean and comfortable and ready to be ...

Garage Re-Do #11: Dust Collection Thoughts

02-17-2009 04:26 PM by MyOldGarage | 11 comments »

This past weekend was a lot of fun. Peggy and I went to two woodworking shows and a wood working store. It’s a new affliction we have—with the new shop toys we are looking at what we “can’t live without”. Thankfully nothing else followed us home, but we did get pretty excited about dust collectors. When we were doing the Christmas gifts the sawdust being generated was being dragged into the house each time we’d come in from the garage. Peggy looked pret...

Shop Organization #2: Going Diagonal/ Making room for the big boy.

12-31-2007 06:07 AM by gizmodyne | 29 comments »

Yesterday I sold my Ridgid (sniff).Goodbye little buddy. But…... I got my new saw delivered and set up too… : ) manuals galoreand wired with a dedicated circuit today. But along with mo tools/mo problems I started feeling another space crunch. My bench is tall so I can’t outfeed onto it without lowering it or raising the saw. I got stressed about it last night and woke up thinking about my shop layout. So I reread a few articles and decided to try a diagonal la...

Time to make some changes to the shop. #12: Time for a new Lumber Rack

11-11-2014 01:32 AM by AngieO | 10 comments »

HEY! Hello LJ’ers. I have been super busy in my shop and in my garage lately. YES… there is a difference. There USED to be a garage at my house and now it is a wood shop. On the other hand… two minutes away from my house is a storage garage. :) Anyhow… here is one of the many projects that I’ve been working on. The tote storage racks helped a bunch. And it motivated me to get the lumber racks done. I plan on building two. I have one done. So…. I did this kinda backwards this...

My Journey As A Creative Designer - Woodworking and Beyond #258: Keeping Things Organized

02-16-2011 02:17 PM by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 9 comments »

I got a large amount of work done yesterday, although it isn’t very exciting to write (or read) about. In preparation for my back up, I wanted to organize my computer and get everything where it belongs. I do this every month or so, but when I am really doing a lot of work it is very easy to have lots of files out of place. The biggest culprit is my “New Pictures” file. This is where I initially collect my reference photos for drawing. I usually use several photos at ...
