When I first got into woodworking, I had just purchased my first house and bought a used fish tank I wanted to refinish. As I was working on it, I bought one tool, which turned into 2 tools, which turned into 3, and so on and so on. Eventually I was doing more in my garage and although it was cramped and not the best place to work, I continued to continue with my expensive addiction. Then I started to think what i could do to make things work a little better in there. Workflow, cleanup,...
It was one year ago that I converted my single stage dust collector into a two stage system. In this video I share the final tweaks and changes to my dust collection system. Find out some of the things I did that worked, and did not work, as I modified my dust collector. I hope that by sharing my experience, others will find it helpful as they make decisions for their own dust collection system. Your friend in the shop, Todd A. I started this project a year or two ago when I read about the benefits of a two-stage system. I purchased a Woodstock lid type separator for a five gallon bucket and when I filled it up too fast I cut a hole in the bottom of the five gallon bucket and put it on top of a Rubbermaid bin. Big mistake. However I was using the shop vac all over the house, most of the time by itself so I never really tested the efficiency of the system until the other day. While it was collecting most of the bi...
Since I did the Dust Deputy Review in Episode 27, I have been getting questions and have decided to answer them publicly with a video so everyone may benefit from the answers. In this video I show how I reinforced the 5 gallon bucket lid that I mount the Dust Deputy to. In Episode 28 I gave information to help the woodworkers decide which shop vacuum size might be the best to use with the Dust Deputy. Here are the last 2 videos: Episode 27: Dust Deputy Review Episode 28: Choosi...
In my last video I did a review of the Dust Deputy and showed how effective it is. This prompted several people to ask me about what size shop vacuum is necessary to work with the Dust Deputy. So in this video, I decided to explore that question and share the results with you. Even if you are not planning on using a Dust Deputy, you might find the information helpful in your decision to buy a shop vacuum. If you have not seen how effective it is, check out my previous video where I r...
Building a dust collection system using Oneida’s D.I.Y. cyclone.
I posted this in the review section as well. But I felt the video offers a lot of context on how I use the Dust Deputy as a professional, what tools I use it with, and how I have it set up. This is a lot of good information to consider if you are thinking of getting one. You can see my Dust Deputy review here. Your friend in the shop- Todd A. I have declared war on dust in the shop. My shop is in the basement/garage and I have been spending more and more time there. Recently I was planing/jointing around 100’ of rough cut cherry for a project which produced a lot of sawdust from all the power tools used. As a hybrid woodworker, I like to get my wood from the mill and prep it myself, saving money. Once I get the stock flat and square and within 1/8” or less then I switch to hand tools. I purchased a Delta 50-76...
