I found in my testing that I need to offset the EWT Finisher from the blank about 1/16 inch. I made a new ‘follower’ using a 1/2 inch washer. This washer offset the cutter all the way around. Using the EWT Detailer that is set to cut equal to the pattern, I make the final pass on the finial. Here are some images of the testing on a finial project. Kosher salt holder out of maple burl

This is my first “real” wood turning project. My scroll chuck just arrived today, and this is what I’ve done so far. Eventually, the bowl will be parted off and a lid will be made from the remaining wood. Finish is mineral oil. It’s about 3” OD and will be about 2” tall (without lid). A few side views: I will probably have to let this sit for a while until my cole jaws show up. Guess I’ll have to go back to practicing on 2×...

Finally got Vacuum Chucking working on my Nova lathe...

Will post full reviews of both systems later, but just wanted to drop a note. The Nova Vacuum Adaptor gets a thumbs down. It works in conjunction with the handwheel. Didn’t work with a shop vac, didn’t work with my vacuum pump. I spent all kinds of time making custom fittings for it. Still no go. The bearing is just too leaky. Just for giggles, I did a standing coin test with the Nova DVR-XP. Many of you know, this is a new toy…er tool to my shop. I haven’t gotten a lot of time to enjoy it, but I have done a few things. The lathe is fantastic, smooth, lots of power and is a significant upgrade to the lathe I had before.
