So a point was raised in my previous installment of this blog regarding tiling appearance of materials (once you assign your custom material to your model and scale it up you’d see the same material pattern repeat over and over again with distinct horizontal and vertical lines (the seams) that separate those repetitions.
This tutorial will show you how to eliminate those seams from your materials, and make it possible to seamlessly tile your material over larger areas. I will show yo...

I’m in the midst of finishing up a project I have really enjoyed. Sure, it has taken me two times the hours I bid, but I am happy with the result. Actually, it has come out better than I expected, which is always a nice surprise.
This is a functional-art piece I wish I wasn’t selling, to be honest. But, I have already spent all of the down payment. So, giving the money back is not possible, so the customer will get her desk.
There have been a few pieces I wish I could ha...

This may appear to be a small 5 minute job, however this upgrade took me a number of hours…I hope you enjoy the shorter LJ links:
Yes, all personal LJ links have been changed from lumberjocks.com/jocks/nickname to lumberjocks.com/nickname format. This is also reflected in your personal projects, blogs etc. links (ex: lumberjocks.com/nickname/blog).
Old links will still work to ensure backwards compatibility.
I’m off to update my email signatures now…

Long time, no post… anyways I’d like to keep you updated about the latest updates on the site. Support and maintenance is taking more and more time because your activity grows leaps and bounds so these upgrades are not huge nor revolutionary. Anyways I’m sure that you’ll find them interesting because most of them were requested multiple times in the past. So here they are:
New Events Calendar features a monthly view of all important LJ picnics and meetings. These ...

Here it is. Certified preowned, but no dents or dings or anything.
It’s 5 years old, but the engine looks pretty new.
Obligatory guy and his new truck photo:
“Access Cab,” woo!
Let’s go find some dead trees!
Few more pics in the flickr set if you need them.

My recent lumberjock postings of the walking cane work I have done recently has brought a lot of interest from folks wanting me to build them special, unique, elaborately detailed, walking canes and sticks.
This new blog communicates the design process on one cane as I prepare to start the carving, and get approvals on the final design.
The customer is a Youth Pastor, and needs to use a tall walking cane to support a bad knee. He and I have been designing this project for several weeks...

NOTE All of my photos have been migrated to a new provider, and the links in my posts are likely out of date. You can find the photos here.
So, I’ve needed a router table, and I wanted an nice big surface area. I’ve used some of the lighter weight ones before and didnt’ care for them. The only product I used that I liked was the Bench Dog with the CI top, and the whole system, including a nice beefy 3HP router would have set me back around $1500.
I couldn’t se...

With the number of tentatives, and number of cancelations, I knew we’d had less people that I had originally planned for this morning, which was fine, but as high-noon approached, I was pleasantly surprised to see on top of the definite-be-theres, a good presence of LJ’s I did not know had planned to come – that was awesome!
All in all we had counted 8 (+1) Lumberjocks (with Daniel’s Wife being the +1 – definitely a +!) it was really nice she came):
Spe...

No pics yet or anything, but after looking at an ‘06 Ranger at the Ford dealer with 42k on it, I kind of fell for an ‘05 Tacoma with about 85k on it at the Toyota dealer. A little older, a bit more used, but it just had a lot more I wanted. It’s a certified pre-owned with 3yr/3k bumper-to-bumper, and 7yr/100k drivetrain warranties, power everything, AM/FM/CD, access cab – 2-door, but has a small back, and little half-doors that make loading things/passengers back there...
