So, I’ve needed a router table, and I wanted an nice big surface area. I’ve used some of the lighter weight ones before and didnt’ care for them. The only product I used that I liked was the Bench Dog with the CI top, and the whole system, including a nice beefy 3HP router would have set me back around $1500.
I couldn’t seem to find the NYW router table episode on tivo, even after a month or two, so I went ahead and bought the plans and the DVD off their website. ...

My recent lumberjock postings of the walking cane work I have done recently has brought a lot of interest from folks wanting me to build them special, unique, elaborately detailed, walking canes and sticks.
This new blog communicates the design process on one cane as I prepare to start the carving, and get approvals on the final design.
The customer is a Youth Pastor, and needs to use a tall walking cane to support a bad knee. He and I have been designing this project for several weeks...

You can finally enjoy the result of my latest work. We got MUCH IMPROVED personal home pages here on the LumberJocks as well as better organization of the profile and account editing.
The former personal homes were not visually appealing and displayed only minimal amount of content. On the other hand, new ones have rich 3-column layout with lots of info about you and your activity on LumberJocks. I believe they represent something you can be proud of and are worth sharing with your friends...

I know we all love fancy time-savers.. don’t we? How would you love accessing your pictures or videos (maintained on the third party dedicated sites) directly below the text area when writing your loooong blog entry, project story or even new comment.
Well, now this is possible here on the LumberJocks through our embedded mini-browser. You don’t need to open new window to paste in that picture anymore – do it 5 times per post and you’ll see how tedious this can be ;...

Completion of this neat little feature took me longer than expected. I wanted to raise my bar as always and spent most of the time thinking and rethinking again. I’ve finally started to work on the plan this week and am proud to announce the addition of Favorites to LumberJocks today.
As you may expect you can add any type of post – project, blog entry, forum topic or workshop – to your favorites list. You can find shining button on each post page. Click on it and short ...

Monday morning came and found me pondering about the important things in life. Well, sort of…
As most of you would know by now, Lee Valley’s Veritas brand has come with a couple of new block planes, the first of their new ”Premium” Series. Aesthetic considerations apart—I am not very fond of the way they look, actually—they sure are a fine example of the highest precision engineering out there. As they claim in their website, ”the sole and sides are flat and square ...

Just a brief update… I have added new (and highly requested) Contests tab to the main navigation. It links to the page that lists our past and present Awards and Challenges together with the corresponding dates.
Check it out now – I’m sure you’ll be pleased to see LJ history in the making ;)

Many of you noticed that I added small logos to the header – for easy switching between our LumberJocks, HomeRefurbers and GardenTenders websites. Just a small update but hopefully you’ll find it useful…

I grabbed a Dewalt Dado set off Amazon for a song a while back, thanks to the wonderful deal hound at Woodnet.
So I loaded that up, got a good fit, and began to run down some Dados
Then I began to glue & brad the chassis together.
I set that aside so that the glue could dry, and moved on to the drawers. I broke down the ply, and laid them all out.
Before I assembled, I did a big tape-up, tossed on some cheap sacrificial borg ply on the bottom, and drilled the...

I’m in the midst of finishing up a project I have really enjoyed. Sure, it has taken me two times the hours I bid, but I am happy with the result. Actually, it has come out better than I expected, which is always a nice surprise.
This is a functional-art piece I wish I wasn’t selling, to be honest. But, I have already spent all of the down payment. So, giving the money back is not possible, so the customer will get her desk.
There have been a few pieces I wish I could ha...
