Hey Folks, Just wanted to let any fellow woodworkers know that we’ve been focused on buying and cutting crotch sections of walnut & finally have them coming out of the kiln every 3-4 months. We have about 150 slabs in our Wimberley, TX located between Austin and San Marcos, TX. Part of what we offer is a focus on bookmatch sets although we certainly have a lot of singles. These sections of slabs are typically 18”-24” wide. We cut everything at 10/4. Lengt...
Hi LJ’s, I’m finally starting to work through some of the wood stores I’ve had lying around for years. With the new shop setup, I’ve got more efficiency in my workspace than I’ve ever had (and a lot more plans to continue improving the setup to come). This past Mother’s Day, my mom shared her new found passion for whittling with me. We had a nice time sitting out in the yard of my sister and brother in-law’s beautiful country home picking out ...
I’ve been working on a live edge Bubinga bar which is now finished. I came across a little bit of footage of the third piece of live edge Bubinga I had to apply and epoxy bar top finish to. I used System Three – Mirror Coat I first sealed the wood with my poly/oil mix and let dry for about a week before the epoxy application. Mix, Pour, Spread, Torch and wait…..... Thanks all for watching hope you enjoy, any questions or comments please post! http://www.youtube.c...
I don’t turn much but do like to take lot’s of pictures and movies of all the woodworking I do. I took a break from my norm of chair making to turn a natural edge Walnut bowl, hope you enjoy. Thanks for watching

I wrapped up finishing and posted the completed project: The photos below can be viewed larger size in the flickr set. === This project began with a plan to make use of a 1” slab of maple I got my hands on recently. The figure of the wood, the shape of the edge and the large size made it highly suitable for a table top. After sketching out some ideas on paper, I put them into sketchup for comparison. Given the natural edge of the top plank, the designs with straight lines and rectil...
Right Click to DownloadRight Click to Download in HDSubscription Options On a recent visit with my friend and mentor, David Marks, we decided to make a little video together. Initially the idea was to simply show David my video production process. But as things started to progress, I knew we had the makings of a great video and this was something I wanted to share with the woodworking community. The goal was simple: let’s turn a bowl! But as easy as that sounds, properly filming ...
I haven’t had much time to devote to shop projects for a couple weeks. Work and life still a little too chaotic for the moment. I did, however, have a bit of good fortune with an unexpected gift of wood. I had a childhood friend contact me on facebook and let me know that he had some “branches” he had pruned off of his Black Walnut tree and I could have what I wanted. Not one to turn down free wood, I investigated and found the branches were 3 12-15 foot sections that were a...
DESIGN INSPIRATIONI drew inspiration on my latest project from my recent experience visiting South Africa to build something for my in-laws (originally from Cape Town, SA). I wanted to design a table and set of benches that reflected the cultural experience of the visit, as well as their own personal style and needs for utility and durability. To start, I put Google to the test for some images showing unique slab-style pieces built by other people. I came across a few that were interesting...
