Work(shop) in Progress #19: Bar Clamp Storage

248 days ago by PurpLev | 9 comments »

I just went over some old pics and noticed I never officially posted this one, so here it is. This is how I have my bar clamps stored and organized (by length) at eye level so that even if one falls, it won’t do much damage (to me) as well as making it easy to reach and grab what is needed: Cheers!

Building a custom mounting box for my VHF Radio

990 days ago by Sailor | 2 comments »

I needed to install my VHF radio in my Montgomery 17 sailboat and I wanted it to be mounted into a bulkhead. To do this I needed to build a little box insert to bolt the radio to. It turned out nicely and was a fun project. I made a video of it mainly for other sailors in a simular position but figured I would share it here since it is woodworking.

Frame Saw Build #4: Stainless Steel Blade Clips

1035 days ago by PurpLev | 12 comments »

It’s snowing here so Its out of the unheated shop and staying indoors – good time to make the blade clips. I chose to use stainless steel because I waned a material that won’t rust, be strong and capable of sustaining the blade tension, and I like the color (not a big fan of brass although I do like it as an accent in some cases). I ordered some 1/2” stainless steel rods from Speedymetals a while back for no real reason when I ordered some other material as it was o...

Amazing Tools #6: The Bench SlideMount

1855 days ago by Gary Fixler | 12 comments »

I think I’m going to end up with several Bench SlideMounts. They’re exactly what I didn’t realize I’ve been looking for. I’ve been dragging my heels on a bad idea I’ve had to install T-tracks in my 8’x2’ work table, seen here almost 2 years ago when the garage was still nice and empty and traversable. I’d make a shelf below the bench to hold my smaller bench tools on squares of plywood, bringing each up as needed, sliding its bolts into...

Hand Tools Cabinet #3: All aboard the Planes

2020 days ago by PurpLev | 9 comments »

I saw this FWW Complete Illustrator Guide to Woodworking, and while I found most of the book to be mediocre (although a nice reference book when you’re starting woodworking) I did pick up a couple of cool ideas from it… then again, it might have been from a different book…lol so I finally mounted my (until now just laying there) hand planes in the cabinet. The shelves are shaped to the profile of each handplane for full support, the shelf has a small ‘step’ (1...

Bedroom TV Mount #1: An Idea...

2655 days ago by Budman | 10 comments »

I like the challenge of building an item of my own design that perfectly fits my needs. The apartment in my shop has a loft, which is our bedroom. I wanted to purchase a ceiling mount for my TV to hang at the foot of our bed. The ceiling is very low (6 ½ feet) and we could not find a mount that would do what I wanted to do, for the price I wanted to pay… So, lets make our own!!! I need something that will hold my small LCD Television and my satellite receiver as close as possible to ...
