Dust Deputy for my shop

09-16-2011 06:29 PM by thiswoodshop | 18 comments »

With all my wood turning and saw dust that is generated in the shop that accumulate rather quickly I needed something that wont clog my vacuum every time is vacuum. I was searching around in the Google Search engine and found The Dust Deputy . I used a Home Depot bucket and my Ridgid vacuum cleaner. This system has proven to very satisfactory and does a great job. I almost never have any thin in vacuum cleaner. I just mounted the system on a simple 2×4 and plywood cart.

This is my attempt at a book box.Made with mahogany and pine. For the inlay I just used the table saw to make the grove. The hinges have taken up the most time but are very rewarding once they work properly. I will update the project as it progresses with photos.

Walnut Coffee Table #1: Preparation

12-18-2011 10:04 PM by Lifesaver2000 | 0 comments »

Preparation for this new project started a couple of weeks ago, although planning has been going on for a while. I purchased 200 board feet of locally harvested, air dried 4/4 walnut lumber. It has been sitting in a barn for quite a few years, and most of the boards are wide and fairly straight. Price was $2.00 per board foot. From what I have seen for prices on here, this seems to be pretty good. (I know 200 bf is more than I will need for this project, but I have a few others planned....

Life as an Amateur Woodworker #26: Project or Blog?

09-02-2014 11:39 PM by PhilBello | 11 comments »

I debated where to put this, then decided to stick with my Blog! I had a makeshift lumber rack made out of an old prison bunk-bed frame, it did it’s job, but it took up too much space, then last week I watched Jay Bates from Jays Custom Creations, construct a simple lumber rack made from 2×4s and metal conduit on YouTube, and that spurred me on to build a new rack. I hitched up the trailer and went off to Homecenter, bought a stack of 2×4s and some other timber for othe...

08-26-2009 04:55 PM by kosta | 0 comments »

In this episode I build a weight organizer for all of the free weights. It only took about 2 hours to build which is not a lot of time. I changed my design 2 times and Im glad I did because my original design would not have worked. I use 2 2×4s and 2 12 in 2×4s for the base.
