Ok Here goes. I have put this off for about two weeks. It has taken me about 9 hours to get it to this point. People thinks that the woodburning they done in high schools is same as what I do. After selecting the picture there is hours pending trying to get the picture just right to transfer everything over to the piece of wood. after you put it on the wood I spend a lot of time going over and over to get the right depth. so with out further ado I give you the DAGON FLY. (OK I AM GOING...
RecapMy niece will graduate as a nurse in the near future. She has moved into a new house and asked me for a small desk for her new flat panel iMac. I decided to make an oak desk that would be loosely based on the mission style but with side panels that would reflect her future as an RN. My goal is a small desk 48” x 29” with keyboard drawer and a small drawer. I’ll be trying my first hand made dovetails on scrap and then on to my first dovetailed drawer I put this out here, baring all for...
We are working on a entry bench and mirror set for a homeowner. There is a small space in the entry of the condo by the base of the stairs that will accommodate a sitting bench and decorative mirror. The mirror unit will be made up of poplar and will have a dark finish. An existing mirror from the powder room has been fabricated and will be framed. a shelf and crown trim will be at the base and crown and a shelf will finish out the top. The bench seat will have a flip lid to store thi...
Well over the last two days i have been able to really get some good solid work done on my mirror frames. first i was able to mill all the lumber to final width. then it was time to cut the piece. i don’t have a long miter bed with a stop block so i used double stick tape to hold the rough identical pieces together to give me exactly the same piece. the first picture is putting the tape on and the second is all the piece cut to final length. Then i cut the groove in th...

I haven’t done one of these in a while. The build was a bit excruciating. Took 6 days, about 10-12 hrs. per day. Started on the Thurs. before Thanksgiving. That was an easy day. I just ran around getting all of the materials together and did some initial layout work and rough cut the plywood sides. These were full height and were too awkward to move around, so I used a straight edge and my new PC 8902 router to get the edges of the plywood ready for the face frames. Once the first side ...
Today was more of an experiment than anything but I’m satisfied with how it turned out. I was tired of sawdust going everywhere in my garage when I used my miter saw, so decided to try build a shroud out of some scraps and some vinyl sheeting so the dust collector could be more effective. I have a shop vac under the miter saw that collects the dust from the saws port which doesn’t collect much at all. Eventually I’ll build a more permanent cabinet with a downdraft table unde...
Well, finally time to advance this blog. It has been more than 4 years ago when I created the last entry on this blog. I was out of the country on business for more than 3 years, causing my shop to be mothballed. Most recently work has been eating into my weekend time. Today I finally started cutting wood on my Miter Bench. After a full morning with my tracksaw and table saw, I had a nice stack of wood, all the 3/4 plywood pieces are ready to go: I spent early afternoon ...
In this episode I start working on a chest. I cut all the parts to the right width on the tablesaw then I cut all the parts to the right length on the miter saw.
I am currently finishing an education class so that I can teach Technology Education (shop class). My last assignment was to create a project that checks for the understanding of the previous lessons. I chose to do my lessons on shop tool safety and usage so it only fits to do a project to show off those new safety skills. I know you all are experts here ;) so I thought you might enjoy picking this apart! I created a simple project that uses the majority of common shop power tools. Her...
