Hi everybody…....My husband finally got the floor finished…...he did a fantastic job I might add and now…..I finally sucked up enough courage to get started on my kitchen cabinets. The kitchen and dining area is 14 ft wide x 24.6 ft long. My cabinets are made of plywood and my face frames and doors are made out of hickory. Hey everyone, It was suggested that I start a discussion on how to find and harvest burls. Please give your input also.
I don’t deal with straight grain that often. I cut and sell burls for a living so here is what I know.
It is illegal to harvest a burl without permission. of course if it is on your own property you can give yourself permission. What I do is put an ad on Craig’s list saying I want your burls. Most people don’t know what burls are. So you don’t get that many calls....

Latest Update.The Woodorking Show people have given us a booth at the WoodWorking Show at the Sacramento Convention Center on Nov 13, 14, & 15. They also will tell our story in their press release and other print hand-out.
They have made us another offer. FREE TICKETS, but with a condition. They will give us a free ticket for each person that works in our booth.

I showed Barb this kit the other day, & immediately she said, ”I want one.”
When the Sweetie wants something, I usually comply to her wishes.
Besides, I can try making something I’ve never done before.
This is the kit I ordered, it's called a Reverie Harp..
One thing about this Harp is, anyone can play it because of the way it’s tuned.

for years ( 45 ) i have been using the jointer , and from day 1 , my shop master ( Lincoln Morinaga ) said
that this tool was the most dangerous in the shop . in my work , i often have to joint 12’ boards or longer .with or without a helper , this is a tedious and risky task , as you have to force the board down with lots of pressure,to counteract the forces of gravity and increasing outboard sagging .my thoughts , have allways led me to using gravity in my favor , and letting my ̶...

This board is not part of the 150.. I showed one of the 150 to a friend and she wanted one but a little larger,This is the way it was made.Cut some bits of board. NGR SA TBDress all sides.This is to see the way it will look with the stripe. Well folks!
It’s finally done!
This took a little longer than expected, because of the weather, & things.
It’s amazing that it looks just like the SketchUp plan, but I think a tad better looking though.
My Son, & his family really love it.
It’s almost like a new room on their house.
I also learned about the new way of staining treated lumber.
They don’t recommend letting it dry out for 60 to 90 days.

After the slabbing cut, we continued to cut the first half of the log. Here’s a short video of Mike on the saw…....

After a few cuts we hit a nail…pulled the saw out and cut from the other end…chipped a tooth but nothing really terrible; the chain was still relatively sharp, so we continued to cut!............
Here’s the spalting a bit closer up…it gets even better in the 2nd half!.......
