714 days ago by Mark A. DeCou | 22 comments »

Debbie asked about some photos of the ice storm. So, I made it out to the mailbox, and took photos on the way back carrying the mail. Tonight, I Finished My Second Custom Steak Knife Set. Is it the Last?

717 days ago by Mark A. DeCou | 15 comments »

It’s been a long week, but I am excited to say that I just finished up the 2nd Steak Knife set tonight about 10:15pm CT. Sure, I could go to bed, but not after I blog the milestone. But, first, let me apologize for not providing much in the area of notable, or supportive input the past couple of months. I just haven’t had time to do any reading on LJ, only worrying about getting my own projects and blogs posted. I swore off of LJ until the steak knife commissions were complete,...

Progress Update on the Custom Steak Knife Commission Project

728 days ago by Mark A. DeCou | 19 comments »

Hey folks, the Wife is in town getting a piece of glass for the top of my knife display box, and so I snuck in from the shop to post an update on the progress for my custom steak knife project. This is the first set of 18 knives. I haven’t started the second set of 12 knives, so it will be a another long couple of weeks to get them finished. This first set of 18 needed to be in Las Vegas for a party this coming Saturday night, so that was a hard push to get them finished in time. Th...

Update on Mark Oscorner

745 days ago by jockmike2 | 12 comments »

Mark contacted me concerning another opinion he had gotten from a different spinal surgeon. He said they had taken him off his heart medication so they could give him spinal injections, trying to pinpoint the area. Then possibley surgery. He’s in a lot of pain but continues to work. He has moved in with his father so he would have a 20 minute drive to work as opposed to a 2 hour drive as per his usual drive. He says it is agony for him to drive a car. Hence the move. He thanks everyone ...

Jim Stevens' "Scrimshaw Techniques" Book going to Print: and I'm going to be in the BOOK!

745 days ago by Mark A. DeCou | 5 comments »

Many folks over the past year have emailed me asking about whether investing in a website was worth the money and time. In my opinion (likely to change any day) for many folks that are just wanting to share their artwork with the world, I think a community posting like Lumberjocks is a better effort of your time spent. If you want to sell your work, or do it full time, then how you use the internet needs to be part of a bigger plan. Almost all “artist-based” websites I have r...
