Demilune table tops #1: Making Demilune Tables

864 days ago by Lee A. Jesberger | 27 comments »

As you may have guessed, I make many of these tables. The practice is needed, and the combinations of woods make it very interesting. These were all made from the plexiglass templates shown. By using these templates, I can make these tops very quickly. I also have other shapes that are more complicated, which I’ll post at another time. Lee

"Incoming Images of Dusky Wood" --by RusticWoodArt

872 days ago by frank | 3 comments »

Incoming Images of Dusky Wood ....working the wood has become a passion of mine, that transcends all elements of time and space, till i am gathered within the character of woody fiber grains, as becoming the appendage of ‘wood art’ who likens of who i am…. It is at times such as this, during the months of July through November or lets just say….until the snow flies my way, that I often become lost within ‘the process’ of all that goes on around me here. ...

Inspired or Insane

872 days ago by che | 9 comments »

After mulling around a bit thinking about the music box I want to build and cursing the lack of tools in my shop (specifically the Rikon 10-325 I not so secretly lust after) I was remembered a post I read and was inspired, http://lumberjocks.com/jocks/woodspar/blog/1370 or stricken by a very severe dementia. I’m not sure. I plan on building a music box with a frame and panel top. The frame will likely be curly maple and the panel will be a black walnut crotch. The crotch I have i...

Coat of Arms commission #2: 10 Hours now.

873 days ago by Roger Strautman | 8 comments »

These pictures are of a few stages in the next 6 hours of carving. Because the maple is so hard this is a slower process than normal. I am using at times this Foredom hand carver which is speeding things up and is it working out great. That’s all until next time!

Lumber Making #2: American Tulip Tree Bowl Blanks

875 days ago by Dorje | 8 comments »

Today I had the good fortune of cutting up a bunch of American Tulip Tree bowl blanks. Called various things around here, such as Tulip Poplar, Tulipwood, Tulip Maple, this is supposed to be some good bowl turning material. It’s really a Magnolia family tree – I think the biggest of the Magnolias, and it ‘s called Liriodendron tulipfera. I’ve really admired these trees when I’ve come across them around town for the past few years. I saw a craiglist post on the wood last week, didn’t get...

Coat of Arms commission #1: 4 hours of work.

877 days ago by Roger Strautman | 7 comments »

My 2007 big carving project was put on hold due to and Coat of Arms commission so I’m going to post this carvings process for you. This carving will be a relief on a 1” X 10” X 12” piece of maple. This is my carving station. This is where I removed the shield area down to different levels to give it the look of depth because this will just be a pickled finish when completed. This is one of the real reasons why one should wear safty glasses! If ...

"Wooded Mixed Quantum Anomalies" --by RusticWoodArt

902 days ago by frank | 11 comments »

Wooded Mixed Quantum Anomalies ....i am as a sliver ridding on the finger of your wind, come blow the expression of your breath across my face, till in the utterance of an all knowing mind, there remains that never un-changing desire of limitless grace…. —-can this rogue of a past thought that waited to captivate, be any movement of great consequence in the dilemma of need, since by your giving breath as life-givin’ acutilobate, i am extolling the virtues of finding my...

"Birds Eye Maple" --by RusticWoodArt

907 days ago by frank | 7 comments »

Birds Eye Maple ....well just a short blog story today as I’m heading out soon to get my butt in high gear. I’ve been keeping busy around the shop lately with the many projects of woodworking as come my way, a counter top in process, some pieces, (actually three) of furniture and then there’s that three legged piece of maple that I have put up on the third floor of the barn-shop that has started whispering my name for attention. Why just yesterday there I was up on the...
