Ok, so let me get this blog started before I get so far behind that I put it off – forever.
It is undisputed that the most important tool in the woodworking shop is a proper workbench. I don’t have one.
I will not rehash the nuances of workbench design but after reading Schwarz’s and Scott Landis’s books, I had my heart set on a Roubo bench. I am not alone as several LJ’s have posted wonderful roubo benches. At first I wanted to build this…
I r...

After admiring the double and double-double dovetail joints that are capable with the Incra and other jigs, I started thinking, “Why not try this by hand?” So this box is my first experiment with handcut double dovetails. It took me some time to figure out the joinery process, but once I realized a few things about this type of joint, it seemed do-able. It was quite challenging but also a ton of fun. It also does take some degree of patience and precision…which I’m still working on.
In...

Maybe “LOVE” is a strong word. But I’m really excited about the final version of the show, and I think most people will feel the same way.
Forget about everything we experimented with before. This is all new. It’s been over a year in development, and And I’d like to think it is a pretty unique format! Here’s how it works…
The show is designed to have the feel of a single camera “reality” type show. It is meant to be a glimpse into our workshop as if you were just stopping in...

Hello. This is a video showing the process I go through to make wooden screws. I briefly try to explain how it is set up and show the jig making the screw. I will soon have a video on making wooden nuts aswell. I will eventually make a video showing how to make the tap and screw making jig and explain how to create the size of screw you want. I’m sure there are many other ways to make nuts and screws but this is how I do it and it works fairly well, the main downside being that I can ge...

I hope everyone was able to find the supplies that I suggested in the last part. If anyone had any trouble, please let me know, either through a personal message or on the comment section here and between myself and the others here, we should be able to help you.
We are now ready to apply our patterns to the wood in preparation for cutting. But first of all you need a pattern. I have made up a sheet of some simple shapes that you can use as a practice scroll saw pattern. Just click on ...

Finally I got it done and shipped it off to the customer. He wont get it in his hands until next week, so I will post his impressions when I hear back. I hope its what he wants!!!
TIP:Some of you may know about this but many will not. This is my secret to quickly fine sand the box prior to spraying lacquer. I hand sanded down to 220 and then I finish up with green nylon pads. These were bought at the local dollar store. Guess how much? Thats right, a whole dollar. You can buy similar pads ...

A month and 1/2 ago I posted Preface to my Wood Gloat where I blogged about some maple wood that I got from a sawmill in Delaware.
I showed these logs that I saw in the sawmill back in Feb 2007.
I asked the sawmill owner to cut of those logs for me. He said no he was going to keep them.
Well today I got a phone call from the sawmill owner. He stated that he has closed the mill down and was going to go back to working masonry. I think that the economy and the lack of getting l...

Hey everyone, It was suggested that I start a discussion on how to find and harvest burls. Please give your input also.
I don’t deal with straight grain that often. I cut and sell burls for a living so here is what I know.
It is illegal to harvest a burl without permission. of course if it is on your own property you can give yourself permission. What I do is put an ad on Craig’s list saying I want your burls. Most people don’t know what burls are. So you don’t get that many calls....

How to make an Art Box
by Andy Campbell
Safety
Be safe! Guards, etc…may not be visible in the pictures. This is written for woodworkers of all skill levels. But, please keep in mind that this is not woodworking #101. I am writing this in a step by step manner that should be easy for a beginner to follow, but some basic understanding of tools and terminology is required.I ask that the more advanced woodworkers be patient and not be offended. I don’t wish to test your...
