Operation Holtzapffel #5: Yup, that's sharp...

623 days ago by Damian Penney | 11 comments »

So I got my jointer blades back from the sharpener, Standard Saw Works, and they did a great job. It’s a cool store too and one of the storefront window displays is full of old wooden planes (I didn’t get a pic) Once I got the blades back to the workshop I set about reinstalling them. My usual method is to use my dial indicator and twiddle with them for hours on end getting them just right but this time I tried a new approach which worked really well. After I’d dropped...

Closure suggestions?

235 days ago by majeagle1 | 10 comments »

I am making a small box for a very special friend to put some of the ashes from her recenltly deceased husband. She really likes the keepsake box that i am posting a picture of here: I want to make the top so it is somewhat secure ( not locked ) but because it is such a small box (7×5 x 3)I would prefer not to put a bunch of hardware on it. Weather Station: The Next Generation #6: Opposites Attract

218 days ago by newTim | 0 comments »

The last step in the process is to install the magnets. If you’ve followed this blog you may recall how I messed this up in the first Weather Station. Here’s a link to that particular mistake and my solution. http://lumberjocks.com/newTim/blog/7909. Of coarse the best solution is to get it right the first time. So here goes. I started by glueing in two magnets using CA glue. This time around I splurged on a 10MM drill bit to match the 10mmx5mm magnets. It seems it is muc...
