Hey everyone. Just another tip for Madrone and Madrone burl… I have been told that madrone shrinks a whopping 18% No wander it is a self destructive wood. So with that being said you can work with the shrinkage or tame the beast. I love the warping and shrinkage of the Madrone. If you can get spindles of green straight grain, you can turn some nice handles and what ever you put in them be it a knife or a gouge when that handle dries it is lock in for years of use. With green bu...
Here are some images of the neck with the clamps removed. The fingerboard is glued on with some titebond II. One thing that I didn’t do that was on the example on the website that I am following is a spar in the neck. The 2024 aluminum that I found was $50 for a 3’ piece. Too much for me. So I left that piece out and we will see what becomes of it. If there is a noticable problem for me, I can always make another neck or just make a 2nd version of the banjo with the necessa...

I’m posting these pictures as a means to get bloggin’…and, because I’m interested in milling and drying lumber (on a scale that I can accommodate – in the backyard). I’m also brand new at it, so it’s just fun to share! I would have liked to have photos or video of this ‘small time’ sawing in the backyard, but wasn’t quite there yet! Inspired by Bob’s forum topic post the other day on the craigslist cherry crotchwood, I took some pics of some crotchwood I cut in April… A couple p...
