I’m pretty excited to have the chance to present at the Sin City Woodworkers meeting tonight. I’m going to be talking about casting resins, which I primarily use in turning. You could use resins in other areas of woodworking, but I see it most prevalent in turning applications. I was introduced to casting resins from the penturners.org forum. I was pretty new to pen turning, and was looking for some general info & help. Well, the problem with the internet is you look...
The Adirondack Chair project is really starting to come together. Yesterday, I got all of the straight pieces to make one complete chair cut to size and then I ran out of Douglas Fir lumber. My “Totally Awesome” daughter, Lila (age 10) surprised me by making a sandwich and delivering it to the garage when she thought I could use a break. She even used fresh picked ingredients from my garden on the sandwich! It’s nice to have daughters who like to take care of the O...
Like most of my projects, this one went from building “an Adirondack Chair” (as in one chair), to building seating for five. At least I’ll be ready for a BBQ on Memorial Day Weekend this year. I was able to get from drawing up and cutting out my templates for all of the curved pieces, to actually cutting out enough of the chair parts...
My old patio set has seen better days. It was a pretty inexpensive set that I picked up when we lived in Phoenix fourteen years ago, so I guess I got my money’s worth out of it. Anything that last fourteen years in the Phoenix and Las Vegas sun is pretty amazing. :) I looked into the cost of replacing the slings on four chairs and a chaise lounge and I’m not sure it’s worth doing. Since I have the time and the tools, this is the perfect opportunity to take a crack at bu...
Hey folks, the Wife is in town getting a piece of glass for the top of my knife display box, and so I snuck in from the shop to post an update on the progress for my custom steak knife project. This is the first set of 18 knives. I haven’t started the second set of 12 knives, so it will be a another long couple of weeks to get them finished. This first set of 18 needed to be in Las Vegas for a party this coming Saturday night, so that was a hard push to get them finished in time. Th...
