Etymology of Surnames

... I know Turners and Carvers and Coopers. Smiths and Tanners and Carpenters. Sawyers and even Wrights. But I never met a Joiner. Besides FloJo of Olympic fame, I’ve never heard of anyone named Joiner. A friend if mine who’s a turner named Tanner (seriously) got a big kick out of this and says this is proof that joiners never get l**d; I retorted that I think it’s proof that joiners work harder (admittedly weak). Anyone care to ponder… or at least...
