Well, things have been busy at home and at work. I finally got back in the shop today to work on a cherry display shelf for some close friends in Central Oregon. I am using my Kreg Pocket Screw Jig for the joinery. I thought it would be fun to share my day with a small video. Hope you can bear with me as I show you this remarkable jig. I also have a Kreg Foreman, a semi-automatic production machine, but thought the small portable jig would be best for this project.

Over the past several years I have been needing and wanting to buy or maybe just make a workbench. I have gone to five woodworking shows in three states over the past two years. At these shows and in several magazines or catalogs I have noticed many of these really nice woodworking benches that are way far out of my reach as far as the $$$ involved. This video features a new crosscut sled built for my shop. Inspiration for this sled came form books in my library and countless Internet searches. This is a simple project for the shop that will increase safety, speed and accuracy of crosscuts on the table saw. Construction is simple with a MDF base, maple fences, Incra Miter Bars and T-Track. The plan file is available for download.
Hopefully this will inspire a sled for your shop!

Sometimes its just plain fun to do a quick and satisfying project. This is a great weekend project made with some scrap and extra material sitting around the shop . . . a great way to answer the “time to clean shop” request from my wife!

Once upon a time . . . in a far away land . . . no wait . . it wasn’t really that far. It was our basement actually. There was a place FILLED with books. I thought I would share the progess of a couple of cherry display shelves being built for some close friends in Central Oregon. This will be used to display works of art in thier gallery. I am using steamed cherry and pocket screw construction. This a follow up from a previous post on using the Kreg Pocket Hole Jig system. I am taking a break from work and the shop spending Mothers Day weekend in Sisters, Oregon. Final sanding and finish await me at home.

I just completed the cherry display shelves being built for some close friends in Central Oregon. This shelf will be used to display works of art in thier gallery. The display shelf is built from steamed cherry and cherry plywood with pocket screw construction. Dimensions are 18 inches square and 5 feet tall. The finish is 4 coats of hand rubbed tung oil and 2 coats of wax.

I’ve almost finished the garage cabinets. My parents were in town last weekend to witness my daughter’s baptism. So, we took the opportunity to spend some time together in the garage.
We were able to build the remaining three drawers in just a couple of hours. I decided to use pocket hole joinery for these drawers for two reasons. One: I just got a new Kreg Master System, so I wanted to give it a try. Two: I knew pocket hole joinery would be faster than setting up the dado...
