Crosscut Sled

310 days ago by David | 19 comments »

This video features a new crosscut sled built for my shop. Inspiration for this sled came form books in my library and countless Internet searches. This is a simple project for the shop that will increase safety, speed and accuracy of crosscuts on the table saw. Construction is simple with a MDF base, maple fences, Incra Miter Bars and T-Track. The plan file is available for download. Hopefully this will inspire a sled for your shop! David STOP BLOCK DETAIL FRONT FENCE DETAIL

This is a great weekend project made with some scrap and extra material sitting around the shop . . . a great way to answer the “time to clean shop” request from my wife! Comparison of Planter box (left) finished with Krylon Spray Stain and Unfinished Planter Box (right) This set of planter boxes was built with two 1×6x8 and 6 1×4x8 pieces of cedar, a half sheet of ¾ CDX exterior plywood and a ha...

Kreg Pocket Screw Jig

939 days ago by David | 30 comments »

Well, things have been busy at home and at work. I finally got back in the shop today to work on a cherry display shelf for some close friends in Central Oregon. I am using my Kreg Pocket Screw Jig for the joinery. I thought it would be fun to share my day with a small video. Hope you can bear with me as I show you this remarkable jig. I also have a Kreg Foreman, a semi-automatic production machine, but thought the small portable jig would be best for this project. I use this jig a lot i...

Workbench 101

661 days ago by PanamaJack | 20 comments »

Over the past several years I have been needing and wanting to buy or maybe just make a workbench. I have gone to five woodworking shows in three states over the past two years. At these shows and in several magazines or catalogs I have noticed many of these really nice woodworking benches that are way far out of my reach as far as the $$$ involved. Finally after a elongated sick spell lasting nearly two months I finally get few boards together, screws, a very few nails and other items tha...

Workshop Improvement #1: Finally - Thanksgiving shop renovation

1 day ago by johngoes | 4 comments »

Months & months ago I set my sight on improving this mess: to this sketch-up vision: (Observing the back wall for cabinets etc) As a result of the economy, I was given a boatload of unpaid vacation days for the company to cut costs and so I have had from last Friday until Monday to start to tackle the shop upgrade. I had an ulterior motive for this – I got a Jet 1220 lathe for Christmas (early) and needed a place to put it and the shop renovation makes that possible. ...

Office #4: Dimensional Furniture #3

229 days ago by clieb91 | 2 comments »

I know it has been almost a month but it has been a busy one.. with a little time here and there I was able to finish the base desk. I put the last coat of poly on it last night and was able to move it in to the office this afternoon and get that temporary desk moved out of the way. I will be taking it apart and recycling it into new furniture for DW new sewing room. The new desk fit in place great and I am now working on figuring out the next step which will more then likely be my...

The Sawdust Chronicles’ 30-Day Challenge is simply that – a challenge. We will be challenging you, the beginning woodworker, to complete a woodworking project within 30 days. Office #3: Dimensional Furniture #2

259 days ago by clieb91 | 3 comments »

Well I was able to work much of the day yesterday and today on my desk. Yesterday got stuff cut down and prepared for assembly. did some part sanding. I decided to use miter cuts for the legs similiar to my assembly tables in my shop. I like the look better then butt joints. To cut the miters I used a great miter jig I picked up at a yardsale last year for $5, best dang $5 I have spent in a long time. Of course like almost all of my projects I used the Kreg Jig. I do like it maybe a li...

Office #2: Dimensional Furniture

261 days ago by clieb91 | 0 comments »

Some of you may have seen previous posts about my office and basement. It is now finished off mostly, still needs some trim work and a ceiling but that is an expense we decided to wait on right now. But anywho, this blog series is about me building my office furniture. I decided that I needed a decent desk with hutch and some bookcases to start in order to house my good size collection of books. Due to cost constraints I have decided to attempt to build the office suite of dimensioned pine fr...
