Computer Keyboard #2: Major woodwork complete

10-11-2011 09:36 PM by Wes Grimes | 1 comment »

I finished all the holes and routed out the back cavity of the keyboard. I am working in sanding each of the holes currently. Then it is time to stain it and finish the keys. I still have some of the round ones to rework, and I have not started on the rectangle ones yet. I decided that I am going to use dowel rods glued inside of the keys then glued to the existing keyboard keys for mounting. I will take some detailed pictures and post more on that when I get there…

Computer Keyboard #1: Over my head...

10-02-2011 04:34 PM by Wes Grimes | 8 comments »

I was inspired by the Steampunk keyboards where people have stripped the keys off of vintage typewriters and modified existing keyboards with them. I really like the look of brass and wood, so I thought I would make my own keys of brass and take the circuit board out of a keyboard. I chose mahogany for the wood. Here is the current state of affairs:(the black swirl marks on the wood are just rubber from some clamps I was using to hold it down while drilling. That will sand right off) ...

I had spent so much time in the shop I was really testing my family’s patience, not to mention all the odd jobs that had piled up. The first order of business was pressure washing and sealing a chapel on my mother’s property that the family built as a memorial to...

Bowed keyboard- Streichklavier #1: My third bowed keyboard

03-03-2009 08:47 PM by JonJ | 5 comments »

After nearly 2 years of planning and other projects…I am FINALLY starting another bowed keyboard; a streichklavier. It is basically a bowed harpsichord, similar in concept to the wheelharp project I posted earlier. http://lumberjocks.com/projects/3563I realize I never finished my blog on that (if anyone was following it) but I kind of went about it backwards by posting the finished project, then trying to blog it’s construction. How this instrument turns out will be as much a surp...
