I’ve made a couple of dowel jigs to use on a table and bench project that I’m making from 2×12 Southern Yellow Pine. One is useful for joining two pieces of 2 by # lumber and the other is for 4×4 lumber. They’re very inexpensive as they are made from a scrap piece of 1” oak and some “steel spacers” from Lowes. Both have proven to be accurate and easy to use.

Thin Material

I have been salvaging wood from my job sites. The latest was some cedar cut offs, so decided to cut them into very thin slabs of about 1/4 and see what i could make. So far i have made a tray to contain silver ware in the silverware drawer and a large tray for the other utensils in that drawer and a pencil box. I am thinking of making larger items so have been joining the pieces which measure about 2 1/2 X 15 X 1/4” to make larger pc of about 15 X 15 X 1/4. Joining these pc’s h...

This afternoon marks my one year anniversary of joining LJ’s. Even though I had read the blogs and such for several months prior to that, I did not decide to join until this date one year ago. Taking a moment to reflect on the prior year, I would say that this site has given me enormous help, including the tips, tool reviews, ideas and inspirations…but most of all the comaraderie with people that share this love of woodworking.
