Some common kinds of jigs are available for sale at woodworking stores and even big-box retailers. Every time I see a jig for sale I think, “I could make that.” I imagine most of us think that! If I see a jig for sale that seems like something I could make, I try to be realistic about whether it is worth the time and effort.
I’m a cheapskate, and I almost always build jigs out of scrap, so the expense to build is very low. If you enjoy building jigs, then even if it takes an hour or tw...

One thing nice about not being allowed to use glue, No glue clean up and you can pre-finish all of the parts before assembly. On my finishing blog I wrote about using Pumice and Rottenstone as a wood filler, I thought I’d try something different on this cabinet.
I used my private blend Danish Oil (1/3 Boiled Linseed Oil BLO, 1/3 varnish, and 1/3 Mineral Spirits). I squirted it on the boards and used a 120 grit Random Orbital Sander (ROS) to sand the oil and sanding dust. In doing that I wa...

As part of the revamp of the closet in our loft that collapsed a few moths ago, I built this jig to ensure all the holes for the shelf pins would line up and I (hopefully) won’t have any wobbly shelves. It was inspired by a jig sold by one of the well-known woodworking retailers. I couldn’t see buying one when I had all the necessary stuff sitting around (short of a special bit). In hind sight, the time spent might justify the cost. What can I say? I like building jigs.

Building BoxesWe started to get stressed about completing both cabinets in the next two weeks in time for the first annual wood competition at our school. So we made the decision to complete one cabinet. Today we started to build the drawers. Our drawers will be dovetailed in the front and dadoed in the back. They will receive another nicer drawer front.

ok – I’ve built my router table jig and have the materials milled and ready to go. Now I see the problem with my jig. I can’t see what I’m doing from behind. These pictures will tell the story. (And no I’m not stick thin but you can’t take a picture of yourself.

Alright, I’m ready to do some real woodwork now. I finally finished my last two table saw jigs. This time I made a miter sled and a key slot jig (spline jig?). I will make more jigs/sleds as I need them, but I think that the three I’ve made recently should be a good start with my new TS. So, heres a couple of pictures, and as always comments and suggestions are welcome (I came here to learn).

At the request of oscorner, I’ve posted some pics of the jig that I use to cut box joints on the table saw.
The box joint jig that I use is a shop made jig from ¾” Birch ply. I recall getting the plans from a Mark Duginske book (“Mastering Woodworking Machines” – I think). I remember that he called a “Universal Table Saw Jig” that you adapt for making box joints.
