I bought the Rockler dovetail jig after seeing this video: http://www.rockler.com/video/video.cfm?ID=3. In the video it looks fairly staight forward and, well…easy. The guy said after only an hour he was spitting out beautiful dovetailed drawers. Well, I haven’t found it to be so simple. My jig is an older version than that shown in the video. Circle Drilling Jig
I did not design this jig. I didn’t make this jig. But I’ve been using it for the last couple of weeks, and I thought that I’d post it as an ingenious drilling jig.
It was designed and made by John Nole of our Mason Dixon Woodworkers Club. He passed away about a month ago, so in memoriam I wanted to post this jig that he designed.

Well I did it again, I ordered from Grizzly and got what I should have expected.
I’ve been wanting a tenoning jig, I read some reviews, Grizzly is rated a good value, generally as functional as any other brands. I looked at the pictures of the grizzly and others and decided the grizzly looked just as good and was substantially less money. I’ll be reviewing the tenoning jig in another thread but for now here’s a short intro to other stuff I found in the box.

Here are the Half-Blind joints I was commenting on in my prior entry. Here is the first one I did. I did it without tweaking the jig.
As you can see, there was a consistent gap. The tails didn’t quite fit in snuggly. I made a slight tweak of the depth, and got a much better result:
As you can see, I am creating a pine prototype as I go. I still make a lot of errors as a newbie and don't want to ruin the Walnut if I can help it.

Well, this is the second of the LEIGH FMT Jig videos. Again please excuse the ameteur quality. This is just my way of sharing a fun day in the shop while pushing my digital envelope, so to say. Things have been a bit hectic here so it was good to get some dedicated time in the shop. Many thanks to my wife for allowing this indulgance!

I finally finished the design work for the table aprons. Nothing quite spectacular but my own touch and interpretation has been added. No pics yet since my daughter has not returned from England with my camera. She should be back Sunday night. So pics will have to wait until next week. Nothing like waiting until the last minute.

As part of the revamp of the closet in our loft that collapsed a few moths ago, I built this jig to ensure all the holes for the shelf pins would line up and I (hopefully) won’t have any wobbly shelves. It was inspired by a jig sold by one of the well-known woodworking retailers. I couldn’t see buying one when I had all the necessary stuff sitting around (short of a special bit). In hind sight, the time spent might justify the cost. What can I say? I like building jigs.

I wanted to show the jig that I used for making the Thorsen Greene & Greene table Aprons.
The plans in Popular Woodworking had a cutout on each of the aprons. Different patterns on the sides and the front and back.
I took the plans and printed them on my printer but each of the boxes were suppose to be 1” square and they were small. So I took the printout to Staples and had them copy them at 125% increase. I ended up with 1” squares. I then glued the paper on some ½” particle board ...

Building BoxesWe started to get stressed about completing both cabinets in the next two weeks in time for the first annual wood competition at our school. So we made the decision to complete one cabinet. Today we started to build the drawers. Our drawers will be dovetailed in the front and dadoed in the back. They will receive another nicer drawer front.

Making Big BoxesToday’s task: Get joining; the cabinets are to be held together with biscuits. Each cabinet has 30 slots. So I needed to get organized to save a lot of marking time and avoid mistakes.
