View on YouTube https://youtu.be/luTo6q1smSs Last week I was lucky enough to have LJ’s own Doc Savage visit my shop. Of course I put him to work while he was there!! All kidding aside, it was nice of him to stop by and we had a really nice visit. Anyway, I shot some video of him while he was here and included it in my most recent shop update. Among that and other things, I also discuss having a little trouble with a minor upgrade to my Festool Domino. Check it out and...

Woodworking in America #1: GREAT!!

09-28-2016 12:45 AM by CharlieK | 6 comments »

View on YouTubeI had an amazing time at Woodworking in America. This was my first time there and I wasn’t 100% sure what to expect. As always, one of my biggest concerns was meeting and hanging out with new people and that was NO PROBLEM! Everyone I met was not just friendly, but downright welcoming. I wrote a complete blog article on my website with LOTS of pictures if you want to know more. I hope you don’t mind that I didn’t post all the pictures here. I figured si...

He showed my the specialized lathe tools he uses for very large hollow vessel turnings and some of his woodturning tricks! The blank for this turning project weighed 400 pounds! Even the tools he use...

Woodworking Interviews #2: Marc Spagnuolo, aka The Wood Whisperer Interview

06-29-2016 09:08 PM by CharlieK | 3 comments »

View on YouTube One of the absolute high points of my 2016 winter road trip was meeting Marc Spagnuolo, aka The Wood Whisperer at his shop outside Phoenix, AZ. One of the cool things about this interview is that he gave some real insights into the Business Side of Woodworking and Woodworking on the Internet. I posted on Facebook when I was in Arizona that I would like to interview another woodworker while I was there. I had heard that Marc lived in the Phoenix area, but I never expec...

Woodshop Tips and Tricks #1: Temporary Metal Vise for Woodshop

06-27-2016 02:18 AM by CharlieK | 5 comments »

View on YouTube I have a very nice woodworking workbench. My bench is adjustable height, has a built in mobile base, bench dogs, a twin screw vise on one end and a quick acting face vise on the other end. It is a fantastic bench for woodworking, which is most of what I do in my shop. I do like metal working, but I focus on woodworking. Occasionally, I need to use a metal vise and I discovered a great, and very easy, solution. I have two metal vises. I keep the better one in the gara...

Woodworking Interviews #1: Pen Blank Perfectionist - Zac Higgins Interview

06-01-2016 01:19 PM by CharlieK | 1 comment »

View on YouTube We moved around a lot when I was a kid. Born in Chicago, and lived in Missouri, Reno, Denver, Wisconsin, and Minneapolis. Within those locations we sometimes moved between multiple addresses. I always say that I grew up in Reno, Nevada because that is where I spent the majority of my life before I turned 18 years old. We left Reno when I was 17 and I visited there again just this past January. I only tell you this to because it was during this trip to Reno when I met Z...

<div> <div>Get your own valid XHTML YouTube embed code</div></div> I am having a lot of trouble getting the video to look right in this blog! It looks wrong here and if you click full screen it looks even worse! If you REALLY want to watch it then it is best to click on the button to see it on YouTube. It looks fine there. Otherwise, well, you get the idea! If anyone knows the RIGHT way to embed videos then I would love it if you would ...

Behind the scenes of my shop and YouTube channel #6: THE WOOD WHISPERER, Chad Shimmel, Ty Moser, and Sun City West

02-22-2016 02:19 AM by CharlieK | 8 comments »

After my wonderful stay in Los Angeles I drove to Phoenix. It took 5 hours just to get out of LA but that was not enough to tarnish the memory. I REALLY liked Phoenix! Actually, I stayed with friends in Sun City West and I had a great time. It was in the 80’s the whole time I was there and I even got to play a round of golf. The folks at Sun City have a fabulous wood shop, unfortunately I didn’t get any photos of it. :( Anyway, I DID get to meet The Wood Whisperer! We ...
