If you are just surfing through the internet about Walking Canes, and you want to see some actual canes I’ve carved, click on the Widget Picture of the cane here. That project has more than 40 other links to other unique carved walking canes I’ve built.
This blog entry is for showing a new concept sketch of a carved walking cane design that I am working on so that the prospective customer can view the concept drawings and provide his input, or approval.
thanks for readi...

I think it is really important to constantly try to learn new things. Could just be my ADHD. But, I’m too old for medications, so I take on new things to learn to keep my mind freed-up from boredom.
I just don’t like doing anything the same, more than once, or twice. And, I’ve been trying to find ways to make a niche for myself in the vast internet woodworking world. To that end, I try unique crafts, and do cross-discipline, mixed-media work, in the hopes that my work...

Hey folks, the Wife is in town getting a piece of glass for the top of my knife display box, and so I snuck in from the shop to post an update on the progress for my custom steak knife project. This is the first set of 18 knives. I haven’t started the second set of 12 knives, so it will be a another long couple of weeks to get them finished. This first set of 18 needed to be in Las Vegas for a party this coming Saturday night, so that was a hard push to get them finished in time. Th...

Well, after being excited, then not, then excited, then not, and then excited, and then not, for the past 3 weeks, today I was told that a check is in the mail for the deposit money for the Custom Steak Knife sets I will be making.
So, I’m officially at “excited” again.
I posted a few days ago about the knife/scrimshaw samples being sent here: http://lumberjocks.com/jocks/decoustudio/blog/2470
Now, I just wanted to follow up, and post that I did get the order today....

For the past 14 months, I have waited patiently to see if my investment in a prestigious national woodworking show would pay off. Sure it was a lot of fun to be counted acceptable by the jury, and to attend the show, but it is hugely expensive for a small one-man operation like I run here. Not only just the cost of the booth fees, but getting things ready to take is a huge undertaking, renting a truck, fuel, hotel, food, etc. I was disappointed with the “return” on my investmen...

I just wanted to share this lovely Roman Plane with interested Lumberjocks & suddenly I’m confronted with BLOGs, scripted windows & HTMLs and other stuff that the Romans would never have dreamed of. I certainly don’t know what I’m doing but I’ll give it a go.
This unique Roman woodworking plane (known as The Goodmanham Roman Plane) with a stock made of ivory was found near the village of Goodmanham, East Yorkshire, England in the summer of 2000, during the ...

About a month ago I received a phone call asking if I would demonstrate the Art of Scrimshaw at the Senior Center in Marion, KS. The lady that called said that she has held onto a brochure of mine since 2003 that someone had given her then, and so she decided to see if I would come and talk to the group.
I asked a bunch of questions, and for some reason had it sunk in my mind that we were talking about the nursing home crowd for the demonstration. I haven’t been to a nursing home much si...
