My wife, Penny, and I recently finished our first marathon. At least that’s what it felt like after attending the giant Artropolis Art Fair at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago.More… Giant doesn’t begin to describe it. 5 separate shows on 3 full floors of the Mart. 4 contemporary art shows and one antiques fair. The centerpiece is Art Chicago, featuring 180 galleries from around the world showing over 2000 artists. NEXT is almost as large and is focused on cutting edge and ...
This is a wonderfully casual interview with two renowned designers. Even if their designs disagree with your own thoughts on the subject, they offer some very insightful views on why and how they design. Also, a brief description of how the design for their sofa evolved through discussions with their manufacturer. There is a section in the middle where they are preparing a meal and their cats are running around….. try to push through because there are some great moments all the way t...
Known mainly for their kitchens, Henry Built produces some stunning modern wood furniture.
Polyporus betulinus ....just thought I would post a shot of one of my keepers of the ideas that fungi around inside my head, before manifesting their molds of desire in the mind-full beauty of ‘wood art’…. And so if any want to follow, then here’s a short course in General Mycology….or as some may say,....WHO-ology and WHAT-ology….! Walking the woods and gathering wood is not the only thing I gather, since what good is wood unless ones starts to un...
Wordy Wooder ....being born this way with a head filled full of words, and then next came the realization that my hands were created, to give expression to the images that swirled around within, while playing the part of verbal misfit, until the day my morning opened up and I saw wood…. One ought to ask them-selves first of all, who-what-where-when and how do I fit in? Without asking these questions that same one will fall prey, to all the other’s coming along and across one...
When last we met, the level of clutter in my basement shop area had hindered my desire to be there. But a recent disaster quickly disposed of the clutter. My shop space is cleaner and more comfortable than it ever was, and the clutter is GONE! You can see more pictures of the newly cleared shop space in my Workshop section here at LumberJocks. It’s good to be back.
Screeching Laughter of Owly Wood ....wherefore comes this walking waunderer of zenith’s quest, with feet planted firmly bearing azimuth’s best, north was my starting till i touched 90 degree at east, and then i finished by coming full circle with accumulated zest…. —-if i should ever stop, in this well-full driven purpose of eating frenzy, as to what i have be-come, then pay no-attention to what i might have been, and know that for sure my spirit has taken flight...
But that’s a good thing! You see, I’m a rather tech-savvy woodworker. A few months ago, I was surfing looking for woodworking community-type sites. Well, I was rather disappointed, could only find sites that specialized in forums, or products, or were somehow too narrowly focused on one topic. So I thought to myself: “Hey, I’ll build it!” Off I went, and I started to do some writing, and eventually put together a website (WoodworkDetails). It’s sti...
Yesterday, I was outside enjoying the “perfect” weather and taking some pictures of flowers, when I sat down on a log by the woodpile to see what I could see…. I saw several images in the ends of the wood, including this one: and then I added a flower from one of the plants nearby: and finally sauntered off to find some other inspirations, including my new rock sculpture I put together:
Level Playing Fields of Granular Wood ….mindless matter passes my way, seeking to enthrall as all-ready enchant my senses, since why have the else of speaking words begun to slow down, as i am captivated by imagination in this atmosphere of wood…. —-wood lives with quality at being, wood loves as quietly being, wood gives quantity in being, wood allows me quantium of being…. —-and so it was that one day, i walked away from where all the dead gathered at...
