I had a great day on lumber jocks yesterday i had got 2 daily top 3’s in the one day with my space saving lumber storage and my small stool made entirely from hand tools, so now i have daily top 3 awards (my other being my homemade table saw). Its great seeing all the encouragement of people and it gives me great inspiration.
I have always aspired to do something creative. I love the challenge and the rewards of taking an idea and bringing it to reality using my mind, heart, and hands. I grew up as a farmer, cattle, pigs, chickens, tobacco, milking to some extent as well. My papaw on my fathers side taught me those skills, as well as other things. My maternal grandfather was a handyman, businessman, and teacher. He taught me many different things. Repairing things around the house, fixing lawnmowers, and woodwo...
Charles Rohlfs Oak Desk, Stickley Ellis Table & Iconic Crafts, Nelson Atkins Art Gallery Kansas City
Wow! I made it, I finally made it, and oh what a surprise to find a museum with Iconic Furniture pieces intermixed with a lot of European, Asian, Native American, Egyptian, and some strange Contemporary Stuff that someone else calls “art”. ————————- WARNING: If you are easily offended by my silly notions of what looks good and is well built, please don’t read any farther. I’m just giving my opinions, that is what ...
When it comes to woodworking, or really anything in life, I have many Inspirations. This video is about inspiration, what or who inspires you? Inspires your ideas, your designs, your projects. What drives you to get out in the shop as often as you can and be creative? Do the things you do inspire others? I Sure hope so! I hope that my projects, videos, and the information I provide inspires others everyday. And hopefully this will help to further inspire a young woodworker who I have gro...
Clark Little's Photography is probably one of my greatest sources of inspiration. I am a huge beach bum and love to surf, but my passion for the ocean goes further then just enjoying it, I am inspired by it. Here are just a few of Clark Little’s Photos that inspire me the most.
I was amazed to see this today.. It’s hard to believe that just about everything is made out of oak, including the press screw!—and its still the original one! I keep coming across amazing things like this. A blog post can contain items that serve as inspiration, so I think this fits.
Sometimes the goofiest things make me happy. Yesterday I needed to go to the post office and post an order that had come over the weekend. I also needed to stop at the store for a couple things since it was right on the way. Our local store is really cool. Although it is one building, one side of the building is a small hardware store and the other side is a craft/fabric store and all the way at the end, it has a small clothing/shoe section. The groceries are in the middle. What amaze...
On my walk this morning I paused to admire the Willamette River. It is wide and this morning it was quiet, peaceful and full. As always it was flowing past me, underneath my footbridge. The body split apart and came back together again with grace and ease. After admiring it’s awesome beauty I was reminded of my work and the feeling of running in place. On the surface the river looks so peaceful so laid back like nothing is really going on. It’s so full that rapids aren’t even showing whe...
What would (fill in the blank) do? I get my inspirations from several sources, depending what I am going to build and design. It could be from anyone of the big names like Maloof, Nakashima, or it could be a fellow LJ member. This comes in handy for motivation as it proved awhile back. I was looking for an attractive drawer pull for a project and out of all the sources (on line, too) out there I could not find one I liked or looked good in the design element of the project. After some...
I have some meaningful words posted on a large sign above my workbench. It describes the only tool one really needs to accomplish any project. I want to share it: “Nothing in the world can take theplace of persistence… Talent will not; nothing is more commonthan unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius isalmost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full ofeducated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” Calvin Coolidge
