Wow! I made it, I finally made it, and oh what a surprise to find a museum with Iconic Furniture pieces intermixed with a lot of European, Asian, Native American, Egyptian, and some strange Contemporary Stuff that someone else calls “art”. ————————- WARNING: If you are easily offended by my silly notions of what looks good and is well built, please don’t read any farther. I’m just giving my opinions, that is what ...

Woodworking For Therapy #1: Live or Waste Away, I choose to Live

232 days ago by Steve Kreins | 22 comments »

I have decided to chronicle my woodworking journey as part of my therapy and boy do I need it! I am 65 years old, a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a disabled Vietnam Veteran. Oh yea, I’m also a Pastor of a Christian Church here in Waco, Texas. You’d think I had plenty to keep me active. So why would I want to add “Woodworker” to my titles? It’s simple, I have Liver Cancer and PTSD from Vietnam. Agent Orange isn’t so good for the liver. I ...

Herman Miller Design and Production Video

What I should be doing… is getting my shop in order because I got a truckload of wood and sheet goods from guy that was moving his shop. I have a built-in banquette to get going on in the shop now that the holidays and family mayhem are behind us (in a good grandkids way.) I found gold! Actually what I found was a Herman Miller prduction video while digging through the Furnitude blog by LJ member Mitch. I just LOVE Herman Miller. What is very important about this video is th...

Guide to the best woodworking videos on YouTube

132 days ago by Steve Diogo | 19 comments »

As a beginning woodworker, I’ve spent untold hours watching woodworking videos on YouTube. I’ve learned a lot and I’ve become convinced that YouTube is one of the main drivers of the current woodworking renaissance. But while there’s a lot of great woodworking videos out there, there’s also a lot of crap. Since I don’t have a lot of woodworking skills to share on LumberJocks, I thought I could provide a service by pointing out the YouTube woodworking te...

Design Article for WOOD Magazine

336 days ago by Todd A. Clippinger | 15 comments »

The October 2013 issue of WOOD Magazine is now on the stands and inside you will find my latest article. One of the most frequent questions I receive is how do I get inspiration for my designs. This is also a topic the editors at WOOD Magazine get requests for, so they asked if I would share a page on how I get inspiration for design. The topic of design and getting inspiration can actually become a pretty lengthy topic and a very complex one which can easily fill a book. But we boi...

LumberJocks is Depressing Me...

2484 days ago by Dekker | 14 comments »

But that’s a good thing! You see, I’m a rather tech-savvy woodworker. A few months ago, I was surfing looking for woodworking community-type sites. Well, I was rather disappointed, could only find sites that specialized in forums, or products, or were somehow too narrowly focused on one topic. So I thought to myself: “Hey, I’ll build it!” Off I went, and I started to do some writing, and eventually put together a website (WoodworkDetails). It’s sti...

Inspired by Frank

Yesterday, I was outside enjoying the “perfect” weather and taking some pictures of flowers, when I sat down on a log by the woodpile to see what I could see…. I saw several images in the ends of the wood, including this one: and then I added a flower from one of the plants nearby: and finally sauntered off to find some other inspirations, including my new rock sculpture I put together:

Exposure in Thrillist.com

A Web Of Connections You never know the connections that might be made from being in a show, exhibition, or getting published. It seems like it is never is a straight line in arriving to that point nor where you may go from there. It is more like a spider web of connections and interconnections. Since being included in the fine woodworking exhibition at the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, I have all sorts of emails and contacts that have come my direction. One of them was from the exe...

"Hobbit Holes in MyWorld" --by RusticWoodArt #60: Sitting With Some Old Friends

Sitting With Some Old Friends ….sitting with some old friends, and what is this need that shakes my be-ing,till from the shards of my distant past, comes the dust storm of ever present wood-chips…. ….these friends have sat patiently now,as the years pass and seasons come and go,their numbers all-ways on the increase-decrease,but with patience and expectancy they abide…. ….my friends have with-stood the ages of change, knowing that in these times-these too shall p...
