Crosscut Sled

309 days ago by David | 19 comments »

This video features a new crosscut sled built for my shop. Inspiration for this sled came form books in my library and countless Internet searches. This is a simple project for the shop that will increase safety, speed and accuracy of crosscuts on the table saw. Construction is simple with a MDF base, maple fences, Incra Miter Bars and T-Track. The plan file is available for download. Hopefully this will inspire a sled for your shop! David STOP BLOCK DETAIL FRONT FENCE DETAIL

My New Router Table #8: A Proud Moment

724 days ago by Blake | 17 comments »

So, No more messin’ around! Its time to cut the hole! With my template all biscuited and glued up, I shaved off the other half of the biscuits and sanded everything flat. With a little sanding and shaving off the inside I got the router plate to fit perfectly inside. So I decided to use my fabricated router plate template to make a one-piece template. This way I could also test the accuracy of it. So I sandwiched together the template, one solid piece of plywood which would be the...

My New Router Table #1: First Go at Sketchup, what a cool program!

753 days ago by Blake | 12 comments »

I have always liked CAD programs but have used them very little. I was an engineering major for a short time in college and took a few technical drawing classes, which I loved. I always thought it would be neat to own some sort of CAD program but never bought one. I think it is great that Google now offers one for free! I had never heard of Sketchup before I found LumberJocks. Anyway, I am building a new router table for my Incra fence+positioner, so I thought I would give it a go. The pro...

Router Table for Incra LS 17 #1: Carcass layout and planning

423 days ago by coloradoclimber | 7 comments »

I’ve been wanting to upgrade my router table and over time I’ve been accumulating the pieces. I’m building my table around the Incra LS 17 Router Fence and a Woodpecker PRL Router Lift. I ended up ordering the 27 x 43 Woodpecker table top already drilled with a cutout for the LS 17 and the PRL. I haven’t picked a router yet but I’m leaning toward one of the big PCs. I’m basing my design loosely on Blake's Router Table. My table top is not as wi...

Router Table for Incra LS 17 #3: drawers

413 days ago by coloradoclimber | 4 comments »

Not a lot of progress since the last entry but I have decided to go with simple box drawers with lock rabbeted joints. I watched a video from Wood Magazine where they conducted strength tests on various joints. They concluded that the half lap, finger, and rabbeted joints were the strongest, stronger apparently than a dovetail for a drawer box. And it’s a lot simpler. So it may not be as cool as dovetails but I think it will be more than strong enough and will be quite a bit f...

Router Table for Incra LS 17 #2: drawer configuration

419 days ago by coloradoclimber | 4 comments »

Finally decided on a drawer configuration I can live with. Overlay fronts and full extension slides. The cabinet doors will be frame and panel, I just didnt get around to drawing the panels in yet. The drawers are just boxes in this drawing. I haven’t drawn in the joinery for the doors or drawers yet. At this stage I was mostly playing around with drawer sizes and spacing. The handles will probably change too, type and location. And the mod...

My New Router Table #7: Tedious details... Gettin' there

726 days ago by Blake | 12 comments »

Here’s what I have accomplished in the past week or so… Drawers:So last time I talked about my drawer construction and my not-so-orthodox method of “biscuit-slotting” them together (the “don’t try this at home, kids” method). I got scolded for that a little, and for good reason. It probably wouldn’t have lasted as long. So I ended up just shooting them full of brads to reinforce them since I figured out that the brads would be hidden by the s...

My New Router Table #5: Doors and Drawers

743 days ago by Blake | 8 comments »

I would have waited until I made more progress until posting this next one, but since I have been stuck in bed with the flue for three days (and I am good for nothin’ in the shop) I may as well post what I’ve got. The following was done before I got sick. I am keeping the joinery as simple as possible on this project. I want it to look nice but it mostly needs to be functional. So I used simple grooved “style and rails” for the doors and drawer fronts, with more of ...

My New Router Table #3: Finishing Cabinet Assembly and Dust Collection

750 days ago by Blake | 12 comments »

This project is really coming together. That biscuit jointer really makes quick and easy work of cabinet assembly. I have never really gotten a chance to use it before. I ordered an Incra Magni-Lock router plate through Woodcraft. It seems to be on the slow boat. But hopefully it will come at about the time I need it. Anyway, more chronicles of the progress I made on my day off yesterday: Here is the cabinet fascia with half lap joinery, 3/4” x 2” Beechwood (the most inex...

Sketchup Models #3: Woodpecker's Router Table Plate

268 days ago by PurpLev | 5 comments »

This is a model for the Woodpecker’s router table plate sized 9-1/4” x 11-3/4”. it is the same size for all their lift/non lift plates, also same size for the pinnacle plates, Jessem plates, and incra plates that are 9-1/4”x11-3/4” in size. the material width is 3/8” but can be modified to fit other materials. (although it is advertised as 9-1/4”x11-3/4” is it slightly different – I think the margin of error is in the 1/1000 range. but ...
