I’ve had a fancy for a thicknessing sander but a 10-20 inch model costs the equivalent of $1000 US over here and there’s no way I can justify that sort of spending so I looked into making one of my own. There’s no shortage of help to be had on the world-wide-web. The links I found useful include:

After admiring the double and double-double dovetail joints that are capable with the Incra and other jigs, I started thinking, “Why not try this by hand?” So this box is my first experiment with handcut double dovetails. It took me some time to figure out the joinery process, but once I realized a few things about this type of joint, it seemed do-able. It was quite challenging but also a ton of fun. It also does take some degree of patience and precision…which I’m still working on.

This is just a little tip.. not the whole tutorial of how to cut and make a woven board.Basically you all can make the weave with the two accent stripes on each side.. right.[ ok just a length of the main timber with 2 stripes cut 1/16 or 1/8 ” thick and glued up. see the pics and work it out ]You can also make the background pieces from the other of the accent timbers the same width as the main weave less the accents.. ok so far.. so I don’t need to go though all that do I? You will need 12 pieces of timber roughly 5’’ by 12’’ whatever thickness you want. [ I milled mine to 5/8”]The first one I made was PH and SA—6 of each.Place timber in the jig and cut the first arc.Move the piece into the fence, clamp and make the second arc cut.
Repeat 12 times.Glue it up and cut it into a circle.Put on a little tung oil finishThats about It.

just wanted to thank all you lj’s for your encouragment and support .this site has fullfilled a long time dream of mine ,to get back to my artwork .i work allot streetside , and it’s mostly that , work !from cement , framing ,drywall , to roofing . some fun stuff at times .i have been retired for 2 years now , but knowbody seems to know that ( especialy me ) .mostly i am the lifeguard at the carpentry pool , when all the hot rods have been fired or quit ,and the client is broke , ...

A couple of whiles ago when I posted my lumber rack, some of the LJ’s inquired about my panel jig. I figured that if I ever needed to replace it, then it would be right to blog it for you. I’m not going to take credit for this as I have seen it somewhere else in one of the many woodworking mags. Just can’t remember which one!

This video features a new crosscut sled built for my shop. Inspiration for this sled came form books in my library and countless Internet searches. This is a simple project for the shop that will increase safety, speed and accuracy of crosscuts on the table saw. Construction is simple with a MDF base, maple fences, Incra Miter Bars and T-Track. The plan file is available for download.
Hopefully this will inspire a sled for your shop!

Welcome.Where do I start, at the beginning I suppose, I was born at an …..sorry not that far back!Ok let do this. [ I will be using imperial measurements throughout this blog..mainly ‘cause all wood working should be in imperial not metric! IMHO anyway]

This project is not technically finished so I will not post as a project..This part of the blog will deal with the cutting of arcs.I basically used one of the patron jigs I developed to cut the end curves for a Baguette Board…this pivots on the circle cutting jig. Cut two lengths of contrasting or complimentary timbers… I of course chose Purple Heart and Silver Ash…Silver Ash and Tasmanian Blackwood would have also been suitable… But if all you have is Walnut and Curl...
