The frame is easy to make out of pine, fir or any soft wood. We want to make it look precision yet old at the same time. The hardest part is convincing the sun to age your project for you 2000 years in about a few days time. The sun owed me for a few sunburns soooo… Just kidding, we’ll get to the aging part later.I remembered a frame I had seen at the museum in grade school. I jumped in my truck that weekend and went to the museum to look at ancient lacquered furniture. I took not...

This is table i’m working on, I know its a little “grand” for a first timers table, but I figured if I can do this table, it will make doing future tables much easier. I’m a child of the 80s and i grew up around 70s and early 80s furniture and if you remember, it was all massive and looked like wood. I love huge furniture still and can never just let a good floor model tv go to waste (i made a router table out of one and a fish tank out of another). So without rega...

Well I’d been talking to Dusty it seems like for a week. He stated that he had this idea for a memorial to Mark, in a way that only a LumberJock could. Dusty’s witings start here
One of the best Memorials would be to insure that we do our part in keeping LumberJocks still in business, and it that way we could keep the memory of Mark alive through his participation.
Dusty told me that he had communicated with Douglas Border about his idea, and they thought that they’d get me involv...

I was just looking at Popular Woodworking’s site a few minutes ago, and noticed they have an article this month on power jointers. The synopsis refers to the power jointer as “essential”. However, have we really lost sight of what the word essential means?
es·sen·tial /əˈsɛnʃəl/ Pronunciation Key – Show Spelled Pronunciation[uh-sen-shuhl] Pronunciation Key – Show IPA Pronunciation–adjective1. absolutely necessary; indispensable: Discipline is essenti...

The idea was very simple and straight forward; create a memorial project to Mark (Osconer) that would generate funds for Lumberjocks, the common dominator amongst all of us. Simply stated, without the website as the common thread we wouldn’t have been introduced to Mark or been brought together as a group.
For this reason it occurred to me that the best way to memorialize someone would be to see to it that the vehicle that brought everyone together had the resourc...

Hello everyone,
My wife and I have been designing our office in a way that we hope will fit our needs and server as a guest room for our kids when they come to visit. When we got the news that we are becoming first time grandparents, we quickly changed some of the design a bit and got started on it right away.
We drew this up in Skecthup and liked it because it met many of our needs.

The top will accommodate a full size bed so that it is not too big, but can sleep two people ...

Well, I started working on my 2×4 project today. Last weekend I picked up a bunch of 2×4’s at Lowes to construct a new lumber rack, with 1 to spare for the contest. I was a little afraid that one 2×4 wouldn’t be enough to complete the project, but it looks like I will have a few scraps left.
I cut some of the pieces today, 4 – 18” long pieces have been jointed and edge-glued together to form one plank (needed it to be a little longer than what is r...

Shame on us, we don’t have a business plan. Never did and never will have one. We knew what we wanted to accomplish. Banks and loan institutions insist on you having a business plan. All professional people (lawyers, accountants, and the like) will advise you to have one. I didn’t need a loan to get started, but if you are one that does need a loan, start writing. A bank will want to know that you have all of your ducks in a row. This business plan will be put in front of loan and management ...

I have to say setting up a wood shop is just as much work and cash, if not more, then setting up a steel shop. Luckily a few of the steel tools are useful and will come in handy to the wood shop. I have also a few tools from a set of cedar drafting drawers I built oh, 5 years back. It was a one time thing and at the time living in an apartment, dust was every where. All I really had was a Dewalt biscuit joiner and a random orbital sander, that was it.
A pic of the cedar drawers, mmmm they ...
